I notice couple of Message Server users and would like to be sure it’s not my plug-in or help tracking this thing.

I read that some of you can reproduce by running an event or when log is added.
I would start buy a good backup (I create a zip file) of the HomeSeer folder then removing all the plug-ins to add them one at the time until you ear the sound again. This will be couple of restart of HomeSeer but should be a good way to at lease know if it’s a plug-in.

I’m not using any code for sound on Message Server but it’s not because I don’t have this kind of problem that I’m not worry.

    Regards,
    Christian

Well I turned off the "power down" of the monitor in the power options but left the screen saver running. I didn't change anything else. I did turn off the monitor with it's switch. No more "bonking".

        Sorry,

Doesn't work for me. I have the monitor powered down via it's switch and do not have a screen saver defined and it still bonks on occasion. The problem that I'm seeing is that it bonks for 2-3-5 hours then it stops mysteriously for a day or so and then starts again. And, no, it's not at the same time of the day or day of week.

Any chance of spyware/adware on the machine that could be trying to execute during the evening?

Just a note that when I turned off the monitor power down, I did it under the "Power" button on the screen saver tab. Set all power settings to "none".

Rich - thats how I did it also. Still no bonking in 48 hours. It was bonking several times an hour before.

I've checked for spyware and Norton and Spybot both report this machine clean. It is dedicated to HS only, so it should be.

Ik, It has been a couple days now and NO bonking! I turned of XP Pro's power down for the monitor, and shut off the screen saver as well. This seems to fix the problem, for me at least, and hopefully narrow down where or what could be causing it. I know a couple times I have seen posts by Rich in here saying that HS is not causing this. And I do beleive that to be true, dirrectly at least. However when HS is not running, (This is the first thing that I tried) the "bonking" ceased. It appears that HS is at least doing something, that the OS dosent like. If it was not in any way HS related, it would also do it with HS shut down, and it does not. Now with HS running and the power options and screen saver set to off, it has stopped with HS running. Very strange indeed, and most difficult to narrow down.

Oh, and BTW, I run Ad-Aware just about every day, at least every couple of days and keep it very well updated. No Spyware found. I also run Nornton AV automatically every morning at 2:00am.

Well crud I must eat crow. My system started boinking last week and I can't for the life of me figure it out. I have turned off the screen saver and power options but it's still bonging. Bummer.

Rupp - so you monitor is on ALL the time? I have to turn my monitor switch off to save the screen. Also make sure the HD is not powering down.

I feel for ya - this is a very frustrating problem that's hard to debug.

Rupp, Welcome to the Club! (One I am sure you DID NOT want to join!)

I use a program called MonitorCtrl.exe written by Dale Higgs. (Link to post is here).

I have turned off WIndows control of the power saving for the monitor, as well as the screen saver. I use this program to send a dirrect command to the monitor to place it in standby. It gives complete control of the monitor from an automaed enviorment. Meaning, you can control the state of the monitor from VB scripts.

I have used it in many ways here! My good morning macro, will turn on the monitor, and good night macro will turn off all the monitors on the network off using the message server plugin. When callerID info comes in, I send the command via message server to the touchscreen in the entertainment center in the living room to turn that monitor on to display the callers info. It then sends another command 30 seconds later to turn it back off.

I also have a X10 keychain remote (Who dosent have one they got for free, and never used due to the bulky design of the ones they give away for free...) sitting on my desk. I use that to turn on and off the monitor "manually" if I so desire.

With this method, and having this .exe control power states, I no longer have that "Bonk" sound at all hours of the night
