    Scripting and RS-232...

If I wanted to add a custom RS-232 device like a matrix switcher or an A/V receiver how would I go about doing so? Also, do I need an event that polls the RS-232 port every so often for unsolicited events or is there a better way without having to poll?

Here's a thread that came up recently that may help you get started:
      serial trigger

Serial transmission to a device is very easy in HS. Just take a look at the com port functions in the documentation.

Handling incoming data can be trickier, depending on the format of the data. The thread above talks about handling this. These are the best ways to handle data that is coming in without being requested.

For most devices, polling operations are used when HS needs to send a request for data every so often. You can usually avoid this if the device is sending the data on its own.
