Security and thermo advice

Excuse the rookie questions but I am at a stand still till I figure out how to proceed. I am building a new home. All equipment will be purchased new.

Can I use the HAI thermostats with HS without an HAI controller? If so, what plugin do I use?

Secondly, What security system is recommended to control with HS? Once again do I need a controller for it?

These questions probably sound elementary but I am confused as to what part HS plays. I see HAI selling systems for $1,500. Do I need that or is does Homeseer take the place. I will be controlling all this via MainLobby.

The worth of the additional cost of a HAI over a CaddX/Napco is a design strategy decision. Here is a good thread describing the pros and cons of each approach. One nice thing about the more powerful alarm sytems is that they give you an additional set of inputs and outputs over the cheaper systems. If I was putting in a new system now, I would install the Elk M1 Gold.
