if you are only connecting one set of speakers, just hook them up and manually turn them on/off and adjust the volume

You should have a "B" setting you can use, unless your already using it. Most amps have an A and B speaker selector on them.

I am not familar with the avr65, but a quick web search showed it to be HK top of the line, one would assume it has a and b sets of speakers

im not a stereo guru but curious...

                here is my manual
                http://manuals.harman.com/HK/HOM/Own...AVR65%20om.pdf

                on page 10
it shows I have a Tape Monitor Out...

I was using them and could play say a cd and transfer it to tape....

wonder if I could just put speaker wires on it.......so the radio would go out and instead of into a tape deck.. out the speakers.....

                not sure though..

Your "Tape Out" is a line level output, not a speaker level output so you can't just hook speakers up to that. A quick scan of the manual doesn't show a way to configure it for this type of operation. Some of the initial surround sound amplifiers were built this way. Maybe this is one of them. Some of the later models allowed you to configure the surround speakers as a B set if you were not using the surround sound functions.

I glanced at your manual, and you do NOT have a "B" set of speaker outputs on that receiver. For a temporary hookup, you could get an A-B speaker switch from RatShack, or you could run an additional inexpensive receiver, or amplifier.

                    http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...entPage=search

Now, being in a hurry to get your speakers hooked up tonight, some discount pawn shops will have cheap receivers or amplifiers in the $30 - $50 price range.. you don't need anything fancy... It needs to have stereo speaker outputs, and RCA inputs... Sometimes lesser brand receivers will go really cheap at pawn shops. I run my kitchen speakers off of a receiver I paid $50 for 14 years ago, it sounds better than my newerish Sony receiver that I paid $500 for pushing the same kind of speakers in other areas.

You'll hook the tape output from one receiver to the input on the other receiver using a set of RCA cables.

Yeah, that amp is a bit extreme for what you need... Around here we have discount electronics store that has $79 receivers advertised almost weekly. One of our pawn shops usually has at least 30 receivers or more in stock of all kinds of brands.

I had in mind something more like this..
                        http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1169512582154

$87 and will work just fine... I used a similar one for someone's in ceiling speakers and it sounded just fine.

Finding something of this level of un-quality at a pawn shop is usually the cheapest solution...

I was trying to avoid replacing my receiver with a cheaper unit... I like my harman kardon... just dont know about going to a cheap receiver like that.. so I thought a external amp will do...

a guy at work has one.. he is going to look for and give me.....
