Last year in my neighborhood we were having a lot of "kick ins".

They kick in the door, run in and take what they can and get out.

The cops said they were in the houses less than 2 minutes.

They carried wire cutters and didn't even bother to unplug anything.

Cable plugged into your TV? cut the wire and go.

Other than a dog, there is really nothing to stop them.

Triple deadbolts? crawl through the window.

      So, I opted for cameras.

They may get my stuff, but I have them on camera. Burn a nice DVD for the cops.

I do feel sorry for the idiot that breaks into my house while I am home. I have the alarm, motion sensors, lights, cameras and most importantly a Springfield Armory XD-40 subcompact.

I too had my 52" Sony removed from my house one night while I slept.

Woke up to find the front door standing wide open.

Next time I put a trip wire on the tv, and hook it into the 24 hour loop on the alarm system. That way it goes off if the alarm is armed or not.

When I move into our new home being built, I will have IR light beams outside and announcements on the front porch and sides of the house.

Thanks for the other ideas here.

        Oh, and:

        Burglary: breaking into a dwelling.
Robbery: taking something from someone by force or threat. (In person)
Larceny: Taking something from someone when they dont know it (without force or threat).
A computer's attention span is as long
        as it's powercord.
