    Help with event

Ok so I love how rmasonjr hooked me up with logging my doors..

now something I need help with... One of our biggest problems is the Arbor gate is left open from time to time..

well last night I looked at the chart and it showed the arbor gate open 10 times... well that gate is on the side of the house and barely used so that amount of opens raises a flag... the wind must of blown it open and closed and open.. thus the 10 times...

so I would like to create an event where..
    A. Gate Open = speaker client says... arbor gate open
    B. If gate open for 30 seconds speak over client every 2 minutes until gate is closed...

    edited....
I am going to remove the sump from this chart....
create the crawl, utility room, shed doors soon....
    I like this..
I may however break some of them apart too....

ok it will take an additional variable and event

I assume you are using a DS10 to monitor the gate? so in the event that is triggered by the DS10a that the gate is open turn on variable 1, create a recurring event that has a condition based on variable 1 has been on longer than x minutes then speak. Then on your gate close event turn off the variable.

However you mentioned the wind could be blowing the gate open and closed, this idea won't work

Like Jack said, you need to secure your gate better so that the wind doesn't trigger the door open sensor...

well that is why I want to monitor it... the wind doesnt just blow it open...

called kids inability to close a gate behind him...

hmmm I could put another gate in.... so he has to close the one behind him before a relay will unlock the other gate... HAHHH

so I want to monitor if the gate is open for too long so the wife would get the annoying announcements over the kitchen pc.... but still we wont find out our old decrepid dog was a few blocks away!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe just some spring hinges and a better latch on that gate would be a all you'd need?

Yeah I vote for the springs !

            Low-tech but very effective !

I did something similar with a closet in Laundry room.. (involving dog food and children that would leave door open.. but not clean up after dogs got sick from gorging themselves.)

              I did a simple event and DS10

Event to trigger when DS10 is in alert for more than 1 minute
Do Not retrigger for 120 seconds
              Action Speak Warning.

The screen shots show how i have it set up...
We have it disabled now.. we moved the dog food to a more secure location after some mice got into it...

wow... so simple... yet not thought of by me....

exactly what I was looking for....

I understand making the gate latch more reliable, smacking the kids when they dont close it and all that stuff will definitely get rid of the need for an event... but

what fun is that? theoretically I could get rid of all my ha stuff and shutoff the hs machine.... but once again.... just things we like to do.....

Oh how I understand that, brings us back to that "just because we can, doesn't mean we should", quote from someone or other. Had he been a HA fan he would have amended it to say "just because we can, we of course over-do"
