    Photo Frames

    Guys

    Just a thought....

Many photo frames now have wireless... I wonder what options the would be to get it to display status screens built out of HS...?

No touchscreen... but cheap and discreet.

I guess some may need a jpg to display... which would be difficult to provide ..if not impossible...

    Thoughts?

Jon00 has a solution specifically for this. Can't remember what it's called but it generates static pages to be viewed on just that kind of device.

      Edit:

here it is, it's called image builder

Is it easy to configure?? And what are your primary use for them?

I would say that configuration using the wireless RF remote (and only method available) is a pain in the backside. Once you get the hang of it, it's quite easy. The encryption key entry for the WiFi is particularly painful but I have now configured a USB memory stick that you can use to load the frame with this type of data if it is lost.

You need a PC running Windows Media Player to serve the frame. It is used as a status screen for Homeseer but with a couple of changes through the remote, is also used as a conventional picture frame. All you do is point the frame to different file directories; one for images generated by Homeseer using my image builder script and another just containing photos.

              WOW!

I had missed your work there Jon... and as you say in your "big" post...

"I'm actually surprised there has not been more interest in this as it is quite a powerful addition to HS both especially for web pages and as a cheap information device tool via wireless picture frames. Maybe people just do not understand what is does???"

This really raises the bar as a big step towards the functionality of a touchscreen for info display at a fraction of the hassle and cost.

              Well done!

David, try it first before making judgement!

This one is really odd. I've had 62 downloads to date with virtually no one commenting on it at all. Perhaps I need to add a few bugs to the code!
