    Elk or Insteon thermostat?

I want to be able to use my iphone to connect to some home automation items such as a thermostat. I will also have a simple elk m1 setup. Which is better to use, a elk compatible thermostat or a venstar insteon thermostat? Does it matter?

I would recommend the RCS line of stats. They are one of the higher quality stats available.

They seem to all be z-wave. Is there a z-wave module for elk? Is there an iphone app for any of this?

The TR16 - RS485 Serial Thermostat (RCS) is a serial based stat.
You can either use the regular HomeSeer web interface to access your stat, one of the many web interfaces built for smaller devices like Jon00's web interface or the new HSTouch iPhone app when it is released. This app is in work but will be a while before it's complete.

Here are a few pics of the iPhone web app that Jon00's app builds.

Looks nice, but will it control devices?

I also have a iPhone/iTouch template coming out for my Touchscreen interface: http://forums.homeseer.com/showpost....&postcount=910

It does not control thermostats (I have no experience with them), but buttons can activate scripts/events if you wish.
