    need some serial port help

Ok so after trying so many different ways to go virtual.... I couldnt get things to work.. so I said fine..

    installed HS on the host...
well all is working... except for my serial port card... 2 ports..

Server 2003 x64 picks it up and sees it... but I cant get homeseer to use it...

what tools do you use to figure this out?

I have the concord 4 alarm connected to Com1 and it works... onboard serial

com 3 and 4 are add in card

com 5 is rfxcom and it works....

I try getting my ztroller or w800 which need both of the 2 serial ports....the only thing I see in common is they both are on the same serial card..... I didnt try but know if I put say the z-troller on com 1 I know it will work.... so

    anyone got any troubleshooting ideas??????
this card was pulled from my dell dimension 3000 which it was all running on.... each of them on the same ports...

now I have this card in a hp professional workstation xw8200....

    Thanks!
    Jeff

The easiest way to check it...

Open up some terminal program (HyperTerm, TeraTerm, whatever).

Open the COM port you want to "check".

tie pins 2 and 3 together. It will act like a null modem (use a gender-bender and put a paper clip in pins 2 and 3). Type in the window with echo off, and you should see your text appear as you type (as if you had echo on). Or, if you have echo on, you should see two of every letter that you type.

Or use a REAL null modem cable, attach between bad port and your one good port...then open two terminal windows...type in one, and the text should show up in the other.

Tasker, to a person who does Homeautomation...is like walking up to a Crack Treatment facility with a truck full of 3lb bags of crack. Then for each person that walks in and out smack them in the face with an open bag.
