Are there any affordable tabletop wireless intercom systems that would also accept a connect from a PC? I am guessing no but wondering if such an animal exists or can be modified to work.

I would say you would need to take apart the base station and make some modifications. I am going to look at one tonight and see what i can work out but my thought is that if you can find an intercom that has a babymonitor / listen feature, you could have one base listening to a remote intercom, and just have the push button wired into the PC somehow, so that it turns on an input before the message is sent.
