Hello everyone–
I am having a major problem, I believe my speech recognition has become corrupted. I am using XP, and when I use the speech control panel I get the following error message “The requested task cannot be carried out because the necessary engine could not be created. Please select a different engine and/or a different audio device.”
1. I have added no new hardware recently.
2. I tried using system restore to a time when I know that it was working, but that did not work.
3. I have Googled that error message (actually Yahooed)
and found this page– http://www.tabletpcbuzz.com/archive/...hp?t-2229.html and
http://www.tabletpcbuzz.com/showthread.php?t=2229
But I am unsure how to delete the speech “key”
4. Also found this page – http://support.microsoft.com/kb/838659
But the hotfix download does not appear to work, as it will not extract to a folder.
Also, I have deleted the user lexicon file, but that did not work either.
I could really use some help here. Since I am not a computer wiz, I would really appreciate, a step by step solution, if anyone knows how to fix the problem.
Thanks
Doug
