Looking for a new ZWave Device

Any inventors looking for a challenge? I was hoping to have a ZWave device that automatically shuts down and turns back on after a few minutes of inactivity. By using a ZWave command I could reset the countdown.

I want it to be a backup to my remote homeseer system. I picture an event that resets the device every 5 minutes. If the device does not get a reset after 15-30 minutes, it shuts off, waits 1-2 minutes then turns back on. This would allow an auto powercycle of the HS system in case other pieces fail.

I find that sometimes, reboot just does not reset everything properly and a full power cycle will do the trick. It seems to be around the USB devices.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to get this?

It's never a good idea to shut down a computer by pulling the plug, but this does seem to be what you want to do.

This hardware could be adapted to your purpose:

You'd want to ensure the circuit "resets" to on so your computer restarts after powering off.

There are also commercial devices available. For instance:

NB: HS PRO includes a watchdog called HSSentry which does a nice job of restarting the system in an orderly fashion in the case of a problem.
Real courage is not securing your Wi-Fi network.

I did not think of a watchdog timer at the PC level. This is a good suggestion. Thanks
