    Xtb 11r

    Hi

Is it possible to use this device to transmit the X10 signals to the power line plugged directly from the PC running HS Pro.
Currently I am using a CM11a but this keeps losing connection to the PC and it is as though the USB is no longer talking to the CM11a.

I have tried plugging directly to the XTB but it does not work, this could be because the cable is crossed or not crossed. Has anyone tried this before or is there a pluggin I need to get 1st

    Thansk for your assistance
    Ken

I believe the XTB IIR emulates a TW523 (aka PSC05?), so you'd need a plug-in that thinks it's using that interface. That's how I use my Stargate. It's plugged directly into the XTB.

AFAIK, the only plug-in the uses the TW523 interface is the Stargate plug-in, which is a probably not a cost effective solution in your case. Have you considered using the TI103 interface? The XTBIIR won't emulated it, but you could plug it directly into the outlet on the front of the XTBIIR if you want to. There is a plug-in for it, and it seems to be well-regarded.

The XTB-IIR digital port is not RS232 compatible. It is an opto-isolated logic-level port with a 60Hz timing reference, data in, and data out. It is intended to be connected to automation controllers such as Stargate, HomeVision, Ocelot, or the WGL V572 RF transceiver.

I am working on a plug-in XTB with an actual RS232 interface that will emulate the "real-time" CM11A protocol. It will not provide any of the control functions, such as timed events or macros.

            Hi

Thanks for the reply. I currently have the port on the XTB connected to a DSC Escort Module and this works fine.
The problem I have is the CM11 keeps dropping its connectionto the PC. I am trying to rule out if the problem is PC related or the Module.
Based on the feed back on this site I believe it is the CM11 that is the problem
I am happy to be test out any pluggin you do develop for this.

            Thanks

It is not a "plugin" in a software sense. It is a physical plug-in module like the original XTB. While the prototype hardware is functional, I still have coding to do as I get time, and beta units probably won't be available for several months. Here is a photo of the prototype:

I read from your note that you may be using a USB-to-Serial cable... or perhaps a USB-to-Serial converter. Many of the low-end USB-to-Serial cables had problems with them where the Clear to Send (CTS) pin (8) was left floating. Adjacent pin stray capacitance can cause the CTS signal to transition - effectively shutting down the UART (Universal Asynchronous Receiver Transmitter). I have found in the past that the only effective means to restore the COM port was to Stop & Restart the serial port driver or to shut down and restart the computer. (Both are a pain)

If you have a COM port driver defined for your CM11a, it should be configued for NO Flow Control as shown.

Good catch, Bob. If changing the settings doesn't solve the problem, maybe just using a different USB-to-serial converter will do the trick.

                    Hi

Thanks for the replies. I have checked the flow control and this is currently set to NONE. I do have a new SERIEL to USB on order. I am using the one that came with the CM11a when I purchased it. It is a Prolific device.
You are correct the only way to reconnect the USB is to restart. I currently have a scheduled restart at 1am to try to help this problem but I do notice disconnect at random times throughout the day.
I can go several days without a problem and then other days it can happen 3 or 4 times throughout the day.
One concern I do have is that when I restart I am just using Windows 7 to do the restart and this forces HS to shut down. When the system restarts it also restarts HS. I always have a warning in the log stating it was not shut down correctly.
Is there a way I can get HS to shutdown and then trigger the restart?

                    Thanks again
                    Ken
