ZIR000 devices, what are these for?

    Hi Guys

I recently installed a ZIR000 MS to HS, whe I downloaded the device it made 4 devices:

    Zwave Binary
    Zwave Battery
    Zwave Alarm
    Zwave root device

I understand what the battery device is for and I think the root device is the main device I need to do events (I think?), But whats the binary for? I just want to use the MS as a ON- off switch. Do I have to have all these devices?

I have the same 4 devices on my ZIR000; I would not delete any of them.

The root device never changes, the binary device is the 'on-off' switch you should interrogate. I suspect the alarm device is supposed to go off as an intrusion alarm if someone opens the ZIR000 case, but I have never seen if show anything but a ? mark. Similarly, I never seem to get an update on the battery level but that might simply be coincidental.

Thks Mark, for responding, which is the device that is used for triggering events,is it the binary?? And how are you using your MS?

Hey Mark how would know if the MS is associated with HS? Because I can't get it to trigger a speaking event.

ZIR000 Devices.jpg shows the 4 devices of the ZIR000 Motion Sensor.

ZIR000 Event A.jpg shows a 'device value change' event which will turn on the basement light if the value of the binary device changes to 'Motion'.

ZIR000 Event B.jpg shows a 'recurring' event which checks the ZIR000 and an HSM100 motion sensor. If both sensors show No Motion then the basement light is turned off.

The only way I know of to check the association is to reset the ZIR000 and rescan the configuration from the ZIR000 root device; it should have automagically have been set when the devices were created. The you can check the associations using the bottom button (ZIR000 Root.jpg).

            Best Regards,

              No joy....

Thanks Mark for posting the pics, I tried making a spoken event triggered by the binary device and device value change to "Motion", but it did not work. I checked the log for any sensor trigger but there where no trigger.

The root device has the config. Button, so I will assume it's associated

I'm running some tests on my ZIR000 as we speak so I will hopefully have some additional insight later today.

But if we revert to first principles, does the LED in the ZIR000 illuminate when motion is sensed? This should happen completely independently of HomeSeer.

I have attached a ZIR000 manual; it discusses the battery level and intrusion alarm with respect to the ZIR000 configuration and use of Association Groups 2 and 3. I had not configured this up until now. But, the ZIR000 should work with HS without this. I believe HS will only automatically associated with Group 1.

The document also indicates that the ZIR000 should be kept away from metal objects. From my experiments this morning it seems the ZIR000 receiver is very sensitive to nearby metal i.e. it won't respond, but once configured, the ZIR000 transmitter is powerful enough that the same metal objects do not cause a problem. For example, the ZIR000 responded at a location across the house, but when a pair of vice grips was clipped ZIR000 plastic, HS could not longer communicate.

I can see the ligth when I open the unit, but I dint see it when I wave my hand to it when it's closed . I also can see it logged when it's open, but after that I don't see Amy changes. This a trouble some MS, I never new it was so complicated. This should be as simple as the X10s.

I have two jumpers in my ZIR000. The sensitivity is set to High (H and M jumpered together), the second jumper simply says LED On/Off. Since you see the LED go on when you open the case, I assume this is what yours is set to.

I have attached a couple of JPGs showing the ZIR000 configuration. In my application, I am delaying the transition from Motion to No Motion by 9 minutes, the Battery report will be every 60 minutes, and the Configuration Parameter 17 is 0 (Default) Lighting Mode.

HomeSeer automatically created the Group 1 Association which causes the Binary Device to so Motion/No Motion. I created the Group 2 and Group 3 associations; the Group 3 association allows for the update of the Battery Device (which I confirmed is happening). I have been unable to (so far) to get the Alarm Device to update when the case is opened.

                        Best Regards,

                        Mark

Edit: Do you have a Z-Troller on your system? If so, if you open your case while looking at the Z-Troller, you should see the Node number of the ZIR000 flash on the Z-Troller indicating communications has taken place. I just did this with the tamper switch and confirmed that HomeSeer is being informed the switch was toggled. It remains to be seen how to get the Alarm Device to update. Unfortunately there are no entries in the HS log file.

2nd Edit: Found hs.DebugMode; started a Z-Wave debug session and hit the ZIR000 tamper switch a few times. HomeSeer is seeing the tamper event, but when it processes the information, it seems to only know about the ZIR000 Binary Device, not the ZIR000 alarm device. Without detailed information on how HomeSeer decides which Child Device to deal with, further work on the Tamper Alarm will be difficult.

3rd Edit: In case somebody can interpret the debug log when the tamper switch (Group 2) is released

                          Rotech,

Is your signature accurate, i.e. you're on HS 2.3.0.16? That would date your system to early 2009 I think. I believe HS ZWave has been heavily reworked since that time. My experience with the ZIR000 has all been since HS 2.4.

                          Best Regards,
