    Need guidance on getting started

Hey everyone - I feel like I'm reading way too much lately and overcomplicating something that shouldnt be so complicated!

What I am looking to do is install a zwave setup on a Windows Server 2008. Right now we are wanting to use Schlage locks (so we can log users going in and out of the building - and also remotely control the lock), thermostats, and some lighting. We also want to have motion detectors setup to trigger lights to come on at night, and have events when someone unlocks the doors in the morning lights come on or when they leave for the day lights shut off etc. Also we are going to have several IP cameras for security which we would possibly like to tie in, but not necessary. We want to be able to do this remotely over the internet and prefer to have some integration with Apple and Android devices.

So far what I think I'm needing and this is where I need the help/suggestions...I'm currently looking at buying the Aeon Labs Z-stick series 2 USB controller along with the Home Seer HS2 software. Is this really all I need to be able to do what we want? Thanks!

You will need a Z-Wave interface of which the Z-Troller is the best for coverage, HomeSeer (and if you want to design touch screen interfaces for Android and Apple products you should get HomeSeer Pro as it includes the HSTouch suite and all HomeSeer plugins) and the hardware devices you want to control.

Does the standard hs2 software have apple/android integration if I'm not looking to design custom panels? I guess looking at the cost of the ztroller and the hs2 pro it looks like its becoming cost prohibitive...

The HomeSeer web interface works on any device that has a browser which is most all devices but if you want to use HSTouch applications from the products markets then you need to purchase the HSTouch addon. There's a sale on the HomeSeer software for black Friday so you may want to check that out. There are also free "touch screen" designer plugins and scripts but none of them have the polished look that the Apple/Android apps do.

These are the paid apps that come free with HS Pro.
