    Need new ceiling fan

I have a ceiling fan that is on a vaulted ceiling. The wiring is run to the top floor with a knob switch. The knob has four positions, off, slow, med, and high.

I would like to replace the fan and also have one that has a light on it. What is a good replacement fan/light that I will be able to automate? I'm all UPB based.

    Thanks.

Is there any way you can run a second hot wire to the fan for the light kit? For fan+light you would need 2 hot, 1 neutral, 1 ground wire run. My guess is you only have 1 hot today.

Off the top of my head I don't know of any fans that natively support automation. Some have remotes, but every one I've seen is proprietary.

I know it's not UPB, but how about the Insteon Fanlinc controller? It's designed to fit within the fan housing, runs off the existing single hot plus neutral and ground, and can separately control the fan (multi speed) and light. Your wall switch in this case would just be set to always on.

It might not be too hard to run another wire. It's in the vaulted ceiling, but I think I could get to it.

What does it take to add insteon control to HS? This would be my only device.

Has anyone here tried the fanlinc? I'm curious as to the quality.
