    There, or not.....

I am trying to set up a two-state situation. I have a second home where I am trying to set up a thermostat and one-light. At this point, I am trying to set up (1) one condition where I am there and the thermostat should keep one temperature in the evening and another temperature at night. The second condition (2) would maintain interior temperatures above freezing in the winter and about 85-90 degrees in the summer. If I could figure out how to do this, I think I could handle most other events..... anybody have any ideas?

How about creating a virtual device with ON for 'home' and OFF for 'away'? You can then create events with time/temp triggers for HVAC temp setpoints for evening and night that are conditional on you being 'home' or 'away' to suit your needs. That's how I handle my 2nd home. I'll be pleased to elaborate, as will many others here!

That was going to be my suggestion as well. The virtual devices work well for a lot of those types of things.

OK.... back begging for help. I have created a new device called "Virtual," since it didn't show up....after that, everything gets fuzzy. From what I have read on the forum, I kinda understand it should be a container for a binary decision, but the logic of making it work or appear past that point eludes me. When I create an event, the device named "Virtual" doesn't show up.... so, I'm kinda lost.

          Help?

You have to create a device and say call it "Home Status", this device you then give it the type as "virtual". This will make the device accept On/Off commands. Then create events that turn this device On or Off and then fire events off of the status of the device.

OK.... disregard the last reply (which is awaiting the moderator). I think I have this much figured out. I believe that there is a nesting issue, now. Is the following possible without scripting?

              If at the second home
              Turn on light
              If Day
              Set Thermostat to "X"
              If Night
              Set Thermostat to "Y"
              Endif
              Endif

              If NOT at second home
              If below a certain temperature
              Set Thermostat to ""Not Freeze"
              Endif
              If Above a certain temperature
Set Thermostat to "Not Too Hot"
              Endif
              Endif

Part of this is the fact that I don't know if I can set the thermostat at some series of settings (away from home) and then override that (temporarily) while we are here.

Is there ANY cohesive documentation about HomeSeer?

Usually better to ask 1st, shoot 2nd. The Help file inside HS is surprisingly helpful.

Indeed, and thanks, I had no idea there was such a difference between what was available inside vs. the website. This is the one task that has become time critical due to the fact that I couldn't get the HS web server to work. Unfortunately, the problem was that with respect to port forwarding, the new brand new cable company owned wireless modem was a brick. Now I have a Motorola (instead of Arris) modem in bridge mode with my original Cisco 4500 and port forwarding works flawlessly. Unfortunately, that put my back to the wall on getting this one task automated. So with the kind help from you folks and sleeping on it.... I have this working. Now, with the pressure off, I can spend some quality time with the documentation, so that I have a better basic understanding.

                  Thanks to all who responded.....
