This year I was so busy with other projects, I only decorated the inside of the house! (For a party that we were too busy to throw....) We did buy candy so we had to come up with something. Then I thought of IT! Helium, string and a red balloon. A little IT theme. And an event that changes all the lights to RED when the doorbell is pressed. I didn't have a Pennywise mask, but I did have a clown mask I named Pound Foolish. No major automation this year, but it did scare a lot of people away before they made it to the door as evidenced by the Ring video. I will upload some to Youtube.

Not crazy like last year, but we did get a few scared kids. Similar setup as in years past with both 'Happy" and "Scary" options. Choose Scary and the Tuya Plugin turns on and changes the Tuya Flood lights to RED. Simultaneously, an outdoor appliance module turns on all the UV lights, BLMedia starts the scary sounds and music, UltraLighting3 starts to slowly change the porch lights to RED, and the iBlinds open to reveal skeletons dancing or playing in the windows. On top of that an old GoControl Sprinkler box is employed to start the smoke machine and start up all the animated stuff through their "Try Me" buttons in order of placement around the entrance. "Rosie" lets us know someone chose scary, so we put on a scary mask and answer the door.
Choose Happy and the Tuya's turn off, BLMedia changes the Music to Lucy & Linus, UltraLighting3 starts changing the porch lights to Orange, the UV lights get turned off and a Happy Halloween banner gets lit across the entrance. The iBlinds on the top flip closed so nothing scary can be seen in the windows. Knowing its for a Happy Halloween, we answer the door with no mask or a "happy" mask.
Oh, and we made jello shots for all the parents!!

The video worked well on the garage door. Was not as good above the door. I had the projector on a tripod and had a cape over it as a last minute thought. Next year I am going to make it a figure in the yard. Maybe conjuring the spirits from the garage? Plan on having LEDs on the roof peaks the over the garage in the coming weeks as well. The LEDs that are up used the Heartbeat effect on WLED.

We will have a fire pit at on the drive, near the sidewalk and hang out to great people as they come by. There is an up-light on the skeleton which has 12 pixels that change colors between Red, Green, and Blue. Currently I am running 2 instances of WLED. 1 for the house lights and 1 for the jack-o-lanterns and uplighting. Eventually these will all run off 1 instance of WLED and pixels will be added to the peaks over the garage. I just need more wiring to do that.

I bought nothing new this year (EXCEPT CANDY!) and am just rearranging old stuff. Last year we did a non-scary Monster's Inc. theme and pre-bagged candy two weeks prior so it was "safe". We used big tong like things to hand the bags to them. Made a decontamination station with compressed air and fog. It was appropriate for the year/COVID, but I want to hear SCREAMS this year! But, I am so busy and unmotivated..... Still have a few days..... We'll see.

I am planning to outline the house with LEDs and leave them up all year. Will be using xLights to control them (which is probably what was used in that video as well). I do not plan on having a "show" all year, but using it to accent during some events. Maybe have a Cylon Eye scanner going across the roof for Halloween, stuff like that.
I will be putting 12 volt "Pixels" in vinyl siding J Channel and poking the pixels through holes. The J Channel hides the wires and blends in with the rest of the siding so all you would see are the LED lenses sticking out. Plan on a couple controllable spot lights as well to wash the walls in color. You know, Orange when the Orioles actually make it to the World Series... Wait... WHY am I putting these up???

I have a neighbor that does something similar ...... it takes him 6-8 weeks to stage all the lights and tune it up....
But it's amazing ....

HOLY CR@P! That was pretty amazing. Saw another video from 2019. Same setup. I wonder if he leaves it up all year?!?
