I've been experimenting for a while with RGB LED strips and want to build a wireless controller that I can use to control brightness and color temperature of the LEDs. This thread is to gauge interest from the community and see if any of you are looking for the same thing.
Whichever direction I go, it would be wireless, controllable by HomeSeer, low power, and as small/inconspicuous as possible. Multiple controllers/strips could be synchronized wirelessly.
Potential applications:
I'm going to build this for myself, but the direction I take depends on what you folks might also like (buy). I'm hoping there's enough interest to at least offset my development cost.
Questions:
Thanks for reading, and I'm looking forward to all your comments, good and bad!

Whichever direction I go, it would be wireless, controllable by HomeSeer, low power, and as small/inconspicuous as possible. Multiple controllers/strips could be synchronized wirelessly.
Potential applications:
- Completely color and brightness controlled
- Under cabinet lighting (e.g. for the kitchen)
- Under cabinet toe lighting
- Wall washer lights
- Mood lighting anywhere you can think of to put an LED strip
- Stairway lighting
- For a cool effect, place behind float mounted artwork to make it "glow"
I'm going to build this for myself, but the direction I take depends on what you folks might also like (buy). I'm hoping there's enough interest to at least offset my development cost.

Questions:
- Would you buy something like this if available? What would it be worth to you for a controller and 3-5m RGB LED strip?
- What wireless tech? I'm considering WiFi and ZigBee right now. ZWave has a high entry price point, so unless there's really huge demand for it I'll probably pass on that. Zigbee is cheaper, but would require an additional controller connected to the HomeSeer computer.
- What applications can you think of that I haven't listed?
- How "plug and play" do you need it to be? Would it be acceptable to connect it first to a Windows or Mac PC via USB to configure the wireless settings? Or would it need to be more like ZWave where you press a button to put it in "add" mode and include it in the network?
Thanks for reading, and I'm looking forward to all your comments, good and bad!
