HS connected to Midland WR300 Weather Radio

Hi, I thought I would share a project I saw in another post. I have a Midland WR300 weather Radio that I purchased and connected a DS10a to the aux alert jack in the rear of the unit. All I did was cut a 1/8 connector from a old set of speaker I had, connected the wires of the DS10 and pluged it in. When I perform the alert test the DS10 fires and triggers an event.

I got a event that alerts the house in a event of a emergency, also if ai am away if will text that there a alert. I know it not a big deal, but maybe other May have other practical uses .

    Very nice Hector!

Yup here have found faster alerts via radio over via internet; but that is me.

That and if you lose your internet or have a power failure this works better.

        BTW; apologies that I forgot.

I still have that little wireless "tag" thing; its yellow; more of a "child" minder than a "thing" minder.

You can have it just paying for the shipping but....

That said write up a DIY in the DIY section for your project and I will ship it to you for free.

                Awesome Rotech!

I did not know the radio had an external strobe! Not that I ever looked either, but this is a great Idea, I am going to hook it up to a zone on my ELk and do the same thing.

                Thank you for posting this.

                      Hector,

Could you do a little test on your setup? I'm wondering if the contacts close for *all* alerts, or if alerts that have been configured to not sound a warning also don't cause the contacts to close.

I'd like to have HS speak a warning and display a warning screen in HSTouch when a warning sounds, but having it go off for every thunderstorm or flood advisory would drive me crazy! Ideally, the contacts would only close on warnings and not just any old alert.

                      Any info greatly appreciated!

                      Fred

                        Hi Fred,

The external alert jack is activated based on whether specific alerts are activated through the selectable alert options (see pages 9-12 in the manual https://midlandusa.com/wp-content/up...ed-5-27-11.pdf). If a specific alert is disabled the exernal alert jack is not activated when that type of warning/alert is received.

                        Cheers

Yes, as Sparkman says, you can disable specific alerts in the WR300 model.
