lol...I actually just tested it and realized its actually a LOT quicker- a couple of seconds at most( if that). For some reason 8sec was stuck in my head. The 8secs is the time I need to close the switch to keep the gate in the open state(time for gate to open to full open). Sorry about that.

I have 4-5 devices at the gate looking back to the house. And two zwave outlets in between( may be three). In the rear of my house I'm traveling the same distances as the front(may be more). I have lights and outlet along the entire perimeter of a 1.5 acre lot. The entire perimeter lighting is controlled by z-wave only. There are no physical switches or control wiring back to the house. So I played with distances till I got it right cause it had to be reliable.

problem seems to be I can't count..
went back and did optimize from each device, not the entire system, and I picked up signal strength... I have no long reaches, but will add one more repeater going in opposite direction just for grins... the GE receptacles I added don't seem to do the trick

    Thanks Guys !!

So I get z wave commands all the way to my gate which is 300ft or more from the controller. I spaced the ge zwave devices so that there is one at least every 50 feet.
I'm waiting to get the new generation of z wave devices to see if I can decrease the z wave transmission time( right now about 8 sec to travel 300 ft)
That's a very interesting insight as to how inefficient this protocol is currently! Obviously it's an extreme case, but all the same. With a strong enough arm you could throw a ball that distance quicker.

How many neighbours does the last device at the gate see back along the line?

Did you optimize your network 4 times after adding the repeater?

started a topic Aeon Z-Wave Repeater

    Aeon Z-Wave Repeater

In an effort to get better reliablilty to some of my devices, I installed the new repeater... It shows to be installed, but no devices show it as a neighbor..
    signal strength has not changed.

Repeater is approx 20' from interface ( Z troller ), the two lights are within 1 ft of the repeater, the flood is approx 15'

    any ideas ??
