    (emphasis above added by me).

I was going to go with a Win7 Pro OEM version for $67 and then just get the "free" upgrade

For me the i3 NUC was $280 + $100 SSD + $45 RAM (8GB stick) + $70 Win7 Pro with is $495 (all numbers rounded up). Looks like the i5 is $100 more. Any reason I should consider that over the i3? Based on the passmark score (not sure if this is a good reference), the i3 in the NUC above is better than my Core2Duo e8500, so I figured that was the best way to go.

Yeah here went with the fastest i3 Haswell CPU / 16Gb DYI'd mITX board in a mini case but not as small as the NUC. (but more expandable).

      CPU - Intel Core i3-4130 3.4 was $119

Software OS was least concern. One was Ubuntu and the other W7 64bit.

That said did purchase W7 64bit for one of the two PCs for less than $100. (~$70 USD)

Here one HS2 box is running on an Atom D525 and does OK. The other is running on a core duo (fastest one I could get and a not a core duo quad) / BCM commercial style mITX board.

I am really only looking at the Baytrail stuff for Homeseer touch only these days (well and Kinect / audio stuff). IE: might switch my carpc's over from the Atom D525's to the Intel Baytrail (each has a 1Tb drive on it now though).
