    Does Hometroller backup events?

Apologies up front as I'm not sure where this message belongs - in the Hometroller hardware section or the HS3 section or.....?
    I'm using
the Hometroller Zee and have created several config backups and froze the system while attempting to set a fixed IP address.
This forced me to re-initialize my device and then load my stuff back from a config backup.
However, the devices returned but there are no events, and I had plenty.
I'm hugely saddened if I've lost my events.
Did I do something wrong in creating my backups that the events weren't saved?
Any advice would be more than welcome.
    Thanks

The homeseer database file (homeseerdata.hsd) has both the devices and events in it. HS3 automatically creates multiple backup copies in the /data folder, so you could try one of the other HomeSeerData_x.hsd files there. I had a similar issue on the weekend. I had my (home-brew) HS server blue-screen due to a driver issue. When it restarted, it loaded fine, but when I did a controlled shutdown and restart after, it loaded all the devices but not the events, and I had to go back to a database version that was about a week old. I lost a bit of work, but not a lot, so I was lucky. Seems that the database structure is not as robust as it should/could be.

    Cheers

HI Al, thanks for the reply.
Unfortunately I'm using the Hometroller Zee and therefore don't have access to the file structure.
And even if I did, when I attempted to change settings to a fixed IP, it made the unit unreachable from the browser and I had to reinitialize the device, which (I presume) effectively wiped out any on-board back up copies.

I had created several backup config files from the Setup screen but it seems to have only backed up the license and device stuff - no events.
Looks like I will create a ticket with the Helpdesk to see how to backup events. This is an enormous concern for me.

        Hi Steve,

There's no separate process to back up events so something must be corrupt. You do have access to the file system using a tool such as WinSCP. It would be best practice to grab backup copies of your whole HS folder and all sub-folders on a regular basis. Alternately, you can shut down the Zee, remove the microSD card and make an image of it on a regular basis so that it could be restored that way at some point if needed. Here's a post of info on how to do that: http://board.homeseer.com/showthread.php?t=163616.

Have you tried all older versions of the database? You can load them through the setup page. Would be interested to know what the help desk's response is. Good luck!

        Cheers

HI Al, ok so either I'm an idiot or senile - maybe a bit of both.
It turns out that my events were in fact restored - all folded up under a large event grouping that I've never used. Any time I've gone into the Events window, they would all display, but after the restore, they were rolled up under the group heading - once I expanded it - they were all there.

However, I love your idea about using WinSCP in to create full backups - just great! Much thanks for that!

            Hi Steve,

Glad to hear you still have all of your events. Still sounds like a bit of database corruption if your event groups are all gone.

            Cheers
