    VoIP phones.

It looks like I've inherited a pair of polycom VoIP phones, are they good for anything, like point them at each other like a bat phone or something or are they junk?

    Ideas welcome

VIOP phones are not junk, however, you do need a VOIP connection to the internet. They are simply making telephone calls over the internet rather than land lines or mobile.

Calls are generally free. Do an internet search on VOIP.

You could point them to each other and configure them to auto dial when the handset is picked up. Requires some understanding of their configuration files and SIP. What model are the phones?

p.s. If you decide they're junk, I'll take them off your hands.

They are soundpoint IP 335's. My original thought was to paint them red and put one in my son's room and one in my nephews room, they are good friends and talk a lot. I'll still try to point them at each other just for fun it sounds like a good learning experience.

Wow this looks pretty cool. A free google voice account and one of the raspberry pi's I have laying around and I get a free toy! I'll be looking into this.

            Thanks for the link!

The IP335 is actually a really good phone, especially for the price. Where I work I've sold thousands of those.
