Basic Tutorial On Installing WD-200+ into Homeseer

I have not been able to figure out on my own, nor to find a step-by-step tutorial for installing a WD-200+ into Homeseer so that I can use all the features, such as assigning different events to one, two, three, four, etc. taps. I hope to use one switch tap to turn on/off just my deck lights on another circuit/switch, use two taps to turn on/off 6 different outside light circuits, three taps to turn on/off an inside group of lights, and 4 off taps to turn another group of lights off. This is rudimentary, I'm sure, would be very grateful for anyone pointing me to a document or tutorial? It looks like I first have to do something in the node itself, THEN go create events that use whatever gets enabled in the node setup. Maybe? I must be missing something as this is as rudimentary as it gets I would think. I have scanned through many pages of prior posts here but not found the information.

So have you added your Z-Wave interface to HS3? Have you added the switch/node to HS3 yet? See section 4 of this getting started guide on how to manage Z-Wave devices.

The user manual for the WD200+ has a little bit of info on what you are trying to do. The section on advanced features has examples on multi-tap.

The product page has a few videos as well. One of the videos shows how to set the LED colors.

I did a quick google search and found a youtube channel with all sorts of HomeSeer info.

Yes, thanks, I have about 15 devices installed, and have formed a few events that work. But I read about people getting double-taps to do things, I know there a lot of things possible, but finding simple step-by-steps that explain the whys and wherefores are tough. And I'll double-check that link to see if it helps me with the HS-WD200+'s many features.

I had not found the first link, I'll dig into it. I've watched the videos on setting the LED colors and have done that - basically. And I've been forced to rely on the Youtube channel in lieu of even a single book on how-to. The drop-down "help" in the program seems great if you are scripting but is incredibly sparse on the getting through the basics. But finding the step-by-step for all the things I have ahead of myself to replicate my old system with Homeseer's greater potentials would be ideal. An ideal that is not apparently to be found. <sigh> For example, I can't figure out how to determine the firmware of the switches I do have installed, nor even what models they are. The page for firmware downloads does not have a single date of posting, so I don't know if the updates were posted a week ago or two years ago, so the 20+ switches I have yet to install may all be in need of firmware updates, as well as all that I have installed so far. argh.

See this screen shot that should get you going on setting up event for multi taps.

In the menu select "Plug-ins|Z-Wave|Node Information" This will give you a list of all the nodes in your system.

Here is a link to the HS3 end user documentation. https://homeseer.com/support/homeseer/HS3/HS3Help.pdf this is a web based version of the same doc. It is a little old but most of the info is still valid. I will agree that sometimes it is difficult to find the documentation. Google is your friend here.

That document has an extra page of information but is otherwise identical to the page that comes in the product's box. But that extra page looks to be much more helpful!!!! Once I understand more on "scenes" I should be able to put together what I need that switch to do. I sure appreciate your help!

In regards to programming "scenes" in events, I look at it this way. It is just a message sent from the switch indicating how many times the top button (scene 1) or bottom button (scene 2) button of the switch/paddle was pressed. So the example in the documentation is showing you the programming required to preform an action if the top button is pressed 3 times or the bottom button is pressed 5 times.

drhtmal - I am of a suspicion that it is relevant as to what happens during the addition of a switch using Z-Tools+. If I start the polling, and then simply touch the paddle once, it finds and logs the switch. i wonder if it is important during the addition process to ALSO tap the paddle twice, thrice, even (lo!) four times, in order to register possible tap sequences?

No! The inclusion process is begun by tapping the top paddle once. From there HomeSeer takes care of the rest. It will create the β€œRoot” which is the primary or parent device that us the device through which HomeSeer communicates with the secondary or child nodes. There will be two child nodes, the first is the control (switch or dimmer) and the second is the Central Scene device. The Central Scene will report the various β€œscenes” that can be reported by the switch or dimmer. You do not need to do anything other than start the inclusion process.

Once the switch is added via the inclusions instructions it is ready to go. If extra taps were required it would be in the user manual.

Forgive my experiential-derived lack of faith, as their really is not a true "manual". But I truly take your point....
