    Status errors

    Pretty much a newby here.

I installed 7 of these guys about 6 weeks ago and they were all working pretty good until 4 days ago, when I noticed some were not motion triggering and the motion status indicators seemed random and non-changing. I forced a poll and see they all show status errors on Luminance/Switch status, and the Flood/Motion status does not show errors but does not appear to be functional. Any general direction would be appreciated...

Do you have other Z-Wave devices in your network and are they still working? The fact that 7 of these are not working would point to an issue with your Z-Wave interface unless other devices are working.

No, just these 7 sensors. I have tried toggling the PI and restarting the ZS2. I see no errors in the log for any z wave line. I went the root device on a couple nodes, Z-wave tab, and did a Test Connectivity with result "Failed to reach node X". Audit also failed with an "not able to send frame". I toggled the PI, nada. Rebooted the ZS2. Today, I relocated the ZS2 a few feet from one of the sensors (node 2, Z2 Den NE) and tried Test Connectivity, which failed, then a Rescan, then a Test Connectivity, which again failed. Log output below. I'm stymied.

Problem solved. Root cause: user is an idiot. The actual problem is that several days ago a scene had been triggered which set all the Lutron switches that power the floodlights to off. No power, no response. This does lead back to a realization I had soon after installing these sensors: the floods should probably be wired hot, not switched. Not sure how I'll get around this one. I could pull the switches and do a pass-through power connection, but then I have 7 holes to fill.

When I replaced an existing Flood Light withe the FLS, I wired around the existing switch(z-wave) so the flood has constant power. THEN, with the "load" side of the switch disconnected but the switch still powered, I made the switch a "remote" and with some events it would turn the flood on or off so I still had manual control of the lights.

            Thats perfect. Thanks!

So one way to do that would be to "link" the Lutron switch to the node switch...? Or I could make the node switch be event driven by a Lutron press and/or other, right? Any pro/cons either way?

Either way. Event driven gives you more future possibilities.

OK, I've moved the switch leg for all the HS100 Sensors from the switched terminal of my Lutron switches to the hot terminal. Now the sensors are hot all the time and the Lutron switch is powered. I then set the "Linked Device" setting on all the Lutron switches to drive the HS100 flood light switch. When I change the Lutron switch, nothing happens to the flood switch.

If I create an event that fires the flood switch on a Lutron change, it works.
If I link the lutron switch to another lutron switch, that works too.

Obviously, I could set up events for all of these, but I don't understand why the linking doesn't work for this case.
