    Smartstick+

So I'm running HS off a server. I haven't started pairing any z-wave devices to the stick yet, but I suspect no issues.

However, I remember coming across a post that the stick can sometimes cause problems when plugging into a full server. (Interference?)

Is there any recommendations when it comes to the stick? I just plan on plugging it into the front of the server.

I do know they make USB to Cat5/6 cables. I could technically extend it to another room. (Not sure how reliable this would be)

Let me know your thoughts? Just plug it in and move forward?

Depending on the OS of your server chassis there should be no issue plugging it in.

I'd recommend testing and if you have issue get one of those short USB extension cords (6-24")to move the stick away from the blocking metal.

        Thanks.

I'm hoping to start pairing soon. I know I have one Ecolink contact sensor that just won't reset no matter what I do.

        Is anyone familiar with these?

          Maybe something like this?

I use something similar for connecting my RFXCOM receiver (in my living room) to my HomeTroller (in the basement).

USB cable length is limited by specification. This page explains it pretty well:

if your server is in a rack I would recommend a 4-6' USB extension cable. I moved my smartstick+ away from all the servers and it has improved communication. I mounted above the door to the closet.
