How to tell if a device was added secure

Just curious, how can you tell from the node information of a device is added secure or not ?
also, do you have to use the s2 plugin to added devices securely?

You need to use the S(ecurity)2 plugin to add a device securely.

Oh okay.
hmmm... One other question. Swapping between z-wave plugin version. Could that be a cause of two devices dropping off the network ?

I've not successfully done an S2 inclusion - even with the Z-Wave stick touching against my door lock it still does an S1 add
