    PI 4 and UZB-7 in homemade 'Z-Net'.

I have a PI 4 with two Zooz USB sticks (faithfully followed @zwolfpack instructions for putting it all together). And the setup is working perfectly fine.

For fun, I purchased a UZB-7 but when I try replacing (one of) the Zooz sticks with the UZB-7, I get this:

Jul-18 21:48:46 Z-Wave Warning Trying to re-connect to Ethernet interface at IP 192.168.1.252...
Jul-18 21:48:46 Z-Wave Note: Only one system may connect to an Ethernet interface at one time. If 2 systems are connecting to your Z-Wave interface, HomeSeer will not connect.
    Jul-18 21:48:35 Z-Wave Device: Node 15 Z-Wave Watts Set to 54.55 (54.55 Watts)
Jul-18 21:48:34 Z-Wave New Interface: Getting node information from controller...
Jul-18 21:48:34 Z-Wave New Interface: The Z-Wave API Execution Thread was Started or Restarted.
Jul-18 21:48:34 Z-Wave New Interface: Z-Wave Ethernet at IP 192.168.1.252, connected to interface ok.
Jul-18 21:48:34 Z-Wave New Interface: The Z-Wave Command Execution Thread was Started or Restarted.
    Jul-18 21:48:34 Z-Wave New Interface: ----------------------------------------------------------------------
    Jul-18 21:48:34 Z-Wave Initializing Z-Wave interface New Interface (Ethernet Interface) at 192.168.1.252, port 2001
    Jul-18 21:48:34 Z-Wave New Interface: ----------------------------------------------------------------------
    Jul-18 21:48:34 Z-Wave New Interface: ============================================================ ==========
    So far, I've tried:
    1. Rebooting everything I could reboot
    2. Deleting/creating interfaces
    3. Connecting UZB-7 to another PI 4 (with a similar setup)
    4. Resurrecting a very old snapshot of the VM with blank (no previously installed interfaces) HS3
    5. Switching between all currently available Z-Wave plugins

What makes the story even more confusing is the fact that known-to-work (now, just laying around) Aeotec and Nortek sticks give me the same message.
Via USB (Windows), all three sticks connect without any problems.

    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

What does your /etc/ser2net.conf look like? The line that starts with 2001:raw:120:/dev/tty ... needs to have the correct tty device. Usually /dev/ttyUSB0 or /dev/ttyACM0.

When you plug the device in/out of the USB, this device should appear/disappear from the listing.
    Code:
    ls -l /dev/ttyUSB0 /dev/ttyACM0
ls: cannot access '/dev/ttyACM0': No such file or directory
    crw-rw---- 1 root dialout 188, 0 Jul 18 23:58 /dev/ttyUSB0
It should be a character device (leading 'c' in the first field), group ownership dialout.

If you don't see the device, try running
    Code:
    tail -f /var/log/syslog
Then plugging in the device. You should see a bunch of lines output. Look for one like
    Code:
    Jul 19 00:05:58 Z-Nyt kernel: [4072426.549463] usb 1-1.1.2: cp210x converter now attached to [COLOR=#e74c3c]ttyUSB0[/COLOR]
To identify where it's being inserted. There may be errors in there as well, if it doesn't recognize the device or something.

      Thanks for your quick reply!

      in /etc/ser2net.conf, I have:

      2001:raw:600:/dev/ttyACM0:115200
      2002:raw:120:/dev/ttyACM1:115200

      Now, executing
      ls -l /dev/ttyUSB0 /dev/ttyACM0,

      I get:
      Code:
      pi@raspberrypi:~ $ ls -l /dev/ttyUSB0 /dev/ttyACM0
ls: cannot access '/dev/ttyACM0': No such file or directory
      crw-rw---- 1 root dialout 188, 0 Jul 19 03:28 /dev/ttyUSB0
      for the UZB-7 stick

      and

      Code:
      pi@raspberrypi:~ $ ls -l /dev/ttyUSB0 /dev/ttyACM0
ls: cannot access '/dev/ttyUSB0': No such file or directory
      crw-rw---- 1 root dialout 166, 0 Jul 19 03:30 /dev/ttyACM0
      for the Zooz.

Are the "/dev/tty..." supposed to be different?

Depending on the vendor of the USB interface chip, the tty devices will be /dev/ttyACMn or /dev/ttyUSBn. Your new device is /dev/ttyUSB0, so you need to change ser2net.conf to match.

          Try
          Code:
          2001:raw:120:/dev/ttyUSB0:115200
          2002:raw:120:/dev/ttyACM0:115200
That way you can connect to either, just specify the different port number (2001/2002) in the Z-Wave Plugin configuration.

Wonders happen when you know what you are talking about 🤩
You've fixed it all. Thank you, sir!

Now, both the Nortek and UZB-7 connect and coexist with the Zooz sticks.

The UZB7 kinda functions but it does not seem to be fully compatible with HS.
The connection process generates no errors but then, in the logs, I get
            Code:
            "[FONT=Helvetica][COLOR=#111111]Z-Wave Warning New Interface: Z-Wave PC Controller Library Version: Z-Wave 7.11 (Unknown)[/COLOR][/FONT]",
            repeated every 30secs.

When adding a Zooz ZEN15 Outlet to the UZB-7 network, I only get 'Sigma Switch' whereas the Nortek generates 5 child devices, all properly recognized.

            oh, well..

Bummer. I recall something like this a couple years ago when I tried to update firmware on a Razberry controller. Z-Wave plugin didn't like something and spit out a warning at regular intervals. Fortunately was able to install one revision older which it was ok with. Fairly recently updated to now current version (newer that the one that gave the warnings) and all is now good.

Probably have to wait for the Z-Wave plugin to catch up ...

Are the zwolfpack instructions still available, can't find them with search...do you have a link?

                Thanks, jack

                  Jack,

                  These:

Dual Frequency Z-Wave - HomeSeer Message Board
HS3 Linux with Remote Z-Wave Interface Setup Guide - HomeSeer Message Board
Does the ZNET(eu) support multiple z-wave usb controllers - HomeSeer Message Board

                  threads discuss the matter.

However, (if you just want a Raspberry + Z-Wave USB stick setup) the steps are:

                  1. Put together a Raspberry Pi.
(For fun, I've been booting them from USB/SSD lately. The SSDs are much faster than SD cards and have better life expectancy. Whether the application at hand actually benefits from any of this is a matter of opinion).

                  2. Do not forget to set a static IP for your Pi. (I do it on the router side.)

                  3. Install Ser2net => sudo apt-get install ser2net

                  4. Edit conf file => sudo nano /etc/ser2net.conf
                  Read/follow @zwolfpack explanations in Post #5 here.

                  5. Add an Ethernet interface to your HS (Plug-ins/Z-Wave/Controller Management). Your Pi should connect on one of the specified in Step 4 ports.

                  (6. I usually install two USB sticks per Pi. To enable the second stick, add to config:

                  2003:raw:120:/dev/ttyUSB1:115200
                  2004:raw:120:/dev/ttyACM1:115200
                  and repeat Step 5)

                  Happy Z-Waving!

                    Hey,
Did you manage to find a solution to this. I have been trying to get a ser2net interface working recently and I receive the:
Z-Wave PC Controller Library Version: Z-Wave 4.54 (Unknown) every 30 seconds.

It actually works though, but seems to make Homeseer busy and unreliable which in turn slows down some of the events. I am using the exact same USB stick in the main machine and although it comes up with the same error, it only says that once and then happily carries on with no issues.

Well, my solution was to sit and wait for a Z-Wave plugin update which would recognize newer versions of the library. And that strategy actually worked.
The v.3.0.7.0 does not generate "unknown library' warnings for my sticks (v7.11 and V7.15). However, I thought that the issue, and the solution, were related to the fact that my sticks had very new libraries.

Did you check your Z-Wave plugin version?

I have just updated the plugin. Last night I also updated the firmware on the z-stick to see if that helped (6.07). So I am now running the plugin version 3.0.9.0 but I still get the warning every 30 seconds.

I am sure that in HS3 it used to have an "update available" note next to the plugin but HS4 doesn't seem to have that hence why I hadn't updated. Unfortunately it doesn't fix it. But its only for the ser2net device not the one connected via USB. Both are the same actual devices. So I can't work out if its a homeseer issue or a ser2net one.

I might try the BETA and see if that makes a difference.

                            Strange.
Not a perfect match, but I have sticks with v6.01, 6.02, and 6.04 libraries; and they generate no errors.

Are you connecting your ser2net to HS Ethernet interface?

That's annoying. I wish I hadn't have flashed it with the firmware now.

Yes they are connected to HS with the ethernet setting with ser2net. I have just done the same for a customer so will update the plugin and see if that works.
