I want to change this from the default - Is there a reason not to do this?

You should change it. However when I did on my (Win7) S6, I found that I needed to do the following so that HS3 would continue to start at boot.

In the Windows search box, type netplwiz and run the command. Note that for the homeseer user, 'User must enter a user name and password' is unchecked. Toggle this on, then off. You will then be prompted for your (new) password. Once this is stored, it will continue to work as before.

Thanks - I was uncomfortable with a default password - Not a best practice ..
