    Slow response to commands

    Hi,
I have the home troller SEL and z stick, all was working well, however recently it is very slow to respond to commands, for instance, if I switch on a device using the web browser, it can take up to 10 seconds to action and change status, this is also the same when using the MS3 app. checked router and network speed, all good, seems the Home troller its self has an issue?
    any help greatly appreciated

What is the MS3 app? This is typically caused by either a bad device in the Z-Wave network or an overloaded Z-Wave network or a Z-Wave interface that needs restarted. Make sure you aren't polling too many devices too often. Too often is anything less than say 30 seconds and can be more if you are polling several devices. Look at the communications between devices and make sure they are all seeing clear routes.

Thanks Rupp, Have changed some of the polling, but still running slow. have around 50 nodes with over 200 items listed (still growing as I add curtains requiring 2 channels each, SONOS etc).
Bit the bullet and have just ordered the S6 and will upgrade with 4GB ram.
Hope this solves the problem. even better I have a buyer for my month old SEL pro!!
Next will be the task of moving everything accross!! expect many posts form me over the Christmas break!!
sorry the HS3 app i meant...

I think as Rupp said the symptoms you describe seems to be a z-wave communication issue. Look in the logs, go back for 2-3 days and see if you see any z-wave warnings or z-wave failures. If not then do a system restart and see in you see errors. If one or two devices don't communicate properly, there seems to be a back log in the z-wave network and you see other nodes coming up with z-wave failures/communication issues. This cause a lag in response or no response at all.
HS really doesn't need a powerful machine to the basics of z-wave. Cameras, voice, etc need a little more processing power.

In any case look in the log and see whats going on.

          Thanks Tom,
just checked the log and no errors found, all looks well, have extended all the polling to over 60 seconds, right up to 30 mins to minimize congestion, but still delays of up to 16 seconds for an event to run or switch to activate via the HS3.

What devices are you polling around 60sec? I do my best to make it not more that 3-5mins and that is only one or two devices that "critical" devices. Like range/stove being left on. Most of my devices have 20mjn polling put in by HS when I first included them.

              Hi Tom,
all the multi sensors detecting motion / temp / light etc every 30 seconds
most of the modules are polling at approx 5 - 10mins, radiator valves are every 6 hours.
Did notice on the log that the following appears every 2mins for all the radiator valves:

HSTouch Server Debug 04:41:59:1218 ~ Refreshing thermostat info
              any ideas? is this normal?

                    Just looking at your log:
I have concerns that the energy reporting device is doing it too frequently?

Also I'm not a Motion Sensor expert, I think "polling" 30 sec is too much.
Did you set the polling like that or was that a factor setting?
If you have the motion sensor manual look at what the factor setting should be.
I think polling should be used very sparingly because it will work great at times, then all of sudden you'll have a normal device you turn on/off, and an event execution and predefined polling executions. This causes a traffic jam in the z-wave network. Then "I THINK" the nodes start looking for other routes in a schizoid fashion. End result a messed up network, and lost of failures.
                    Tom

Thanks again guys, have extended all the polling (between 30mins and 12 hours), switched off HS Touch server, rebooted the device, and still no joy!
do devices need to be polled, as I thought, the device sent the controller a change of state condition?
My S6 should arrive at the end of December, so can carry on till then, then wipe the machine and test with a few devices again before my freind gets it

Depends on your devices, I have a mix of sensors and modules and none of them are polled for status. What devices do you have?

If your Z-Wave interface supports this option you should see a restore from backup option in the Z-Wave menus. Which Z-Wave interface are you using?
