  • Can't get a HS Smart Stick+ to restore

I'm having a really bad day. I just received a new HS Smart Stick+ and was trying to restore my Z-Wave network to it. This is something I've done many times and never had an issue doing it.

My first attempt at doing a restore on the HS SS+ I kept getting errors that the version was unknown. This was fixed by moving to the Beta Z-Wave Plugin.

From that point on it goes through the motions but only device ID one gets loaded and that is the controller.

There is a message about more than one system wanting to sue the controller but that happens only during the restore and not during a Plugin restart.

I can control some most devices but only ones that don't need to be routed since the controller doesn't have the node information since it won't load.

This is the file that I restored from.

Well looks like it's the Z-Net, my old ZeeS2, when running the HS-SS+. I was able to load it by plugging it into the computer. Now I'll move the card to the Z-Net and see if it runs.

Hey John, did you get it working? Are you running HS's Z-Net build or one of mine? What is the contents of /etc/ser2net.conf, particularly the line that starts with

      Code:
      2001:raw: ...

I'm using the HS build. put everything aside for a few hours so I could think about it. Then I remembered the ser2net.conf file.

        Just checked it and it's:

        Code:
        BANNER:banner:\r\nser2net port \p device \d [\s] (Debian GNU/Linux)\r\n\r\n

        #2000:telnet:600:/dev/ttyS0:9600 8DATABITS NONE 1STOPBIT banner
        2001:raw:0:/dev/ttyACM0:115200 8DATABITS NONE 1STOPBIT -XONXOFF -RTSCTS
        #2002:raw:0:/dev/ttyUSB0:19200 8DATABITS NONE 1STOPBIT -XONXOFF -RTSCTS
        #3000:telnet:600:/dev/ttyS0:19200 8DATABITS NONE 1STOPBIT banner
        #3001:telnet:600:/dev/ttyS1:19200 8DATABITS NONE 1STOPBIT banner
Without the HS-SS+ installed. I'll move the card in the morning when I get up since I have to go into the attic.

BTW, When I first tried this I forgot that I had put the RazBerry card in. So both it and the HS-SS+ were installed. That may have confused things. I took the card out and tried again but still had issues.

Biggest issue right now is having the HS-SS+ in the attic effects it's range. I could try the RazBerry and add it to the network. I think that works since it gets the information from the primary device. It's something I've never tried so it's a big experiment but one that I need to try anyway since i'll be adding several Z-Wave devices to the back yard and will need better coverage there.

I also have some HS nodes that think they are sleeping devices as I get this message on the Z-Wave tab "Note: The device must be woken up manually to use the functions below.". I've not found out how to fix this.

OMT, The Node Information page seems to be very slow now. Don't know if it's due to the HS SS+ or something else. It basically locks up the entire web interface so you can display any other page until it's finished.

Latest update in getting up and running. Well, I'm up but not the way I like. I had to perform the restore with the HS SS+ plugged directly into the HS3 system running on Ubuntu. I then had to move the HS SS+ back to the Z-Net so it was in the location where it can reach everything in the house fairly well. I still need to really have two Z-Nets but that a later issue I won't address untill all of my old Evolve dimmers are replaced with the 15 WD200s I just put on order.

What I don't understand is why the HS SS+ won't restore on the Z-Net. The Z-Net is later "working" version of 1.0.23.

Here is its current ser2net.conf file.

          Code:
          #2000:telnet:600:/dev/ttyS0:9600 8DATABITS NONE 1STOPBIT banner
          2001:raw:0:/dev/ttyACM0:115200 8DATABITS NONE 1STOPBIT -XONXOFF -RTSCTS
          #2002:raw:0:/dev/ttyUSB0:19200 8DATABITS NONE 1STOPBIT -XONXOFF -RTSCTS
          #3000:telnet:600:/dev/ttyS0:19200 8DATABITS NONE 1STOPBIT banner
          #3001:telnet:600:/dev/ttyS1:19200 8DATABITS NONE 1STOPBIT banner
I thought that ttyACM0 was for the EZZeeUS card but it seems to basically work. I just want to be able to do the restore using the Z-Net and not have to put the HS SS+ back in the main system every time I need to do it.

Hi John, not a SmartStick, but I have a Nortek HUSBZB-1 which is the same mfgr as the SmartStick (unless that's changed in the past year or so). I was able to restore the file you posted above without issue. Log below. Afterwards Node Information shows 55 nodes.

I notice this is using Z-Wave version 3.0.2.234, which is what came with HS3-Pi. Next I'll try the main line 3.0.1.252.

I am running my own build, which has a more recent ser2net than that on the HS Z-Net.

Ok, so I've got 252 and performing a restore does NOT work - could be to do with my controller node is at address 108? I've got a UZB stick.

So, it seems to do a reset, sets a temporary home ID, then never flashes the old home ID - any ideas on what to actually do?

Yep, that's what's happening. Are you using a real Z-Net or a RPi setup with the generic ser2net wither the standard one or zwolfpack's updated version? I'm currently on HS's version but will be trying zwolfpack's version soon. I'm currently running Z-Wave: 3.0.1.262 but I've tried 252 and 258.
