Triggers - A Recurring Trigger Happens

This is a very good universal trigger. In a lot of cases you can create an event where there is not a specific trigger that is appropriate. If you want to run a script on a regular basis or if you want to check the status of a series of devices and perform an action. When you structure the event you may want to be careful to put a condition in the event that is also changed by an action in the event so that it does not constantly run. As we've said a number of times before, there is very little HomeSeer overhead in evaluating event, it is only when the triggers and conditions are all true, causing the event to perform its actions, that any real resources are used. For that reason it is always smart to structure your event to prevent it from running needlessly. There will be a sample event at the bottom to illustrate how this can be done.

As its name implies this trigger will happen on a recurring basis and an interval you determine. You have the choice of running the event an a recurring schedule that randomly starts when HomeSeer does, have it run on a specific schedule beginning at the top of the hour or have it run once an hour at a specific time.

When you choose one of the three triggers, you will have a dialog to allow you to put in specific hours, minutes and seconds for the interval.

Below is an example event where a recurring trigger is the only logical trigger. It is a fail safe to make sure that my hydronic heating boiler is not running if all of the zone valves are closed. While there are events to turn off the circulator and burner as the last zone valve closes, this event is a "double check" to make sure the burner is off. There is a similar event for the circulator. As you will note the value of the burner control device is also a condition, so this event will only run once if the burner remains on.
