  • Blocked from Further Access to the System

In my log, I sometimes see that my desktop computer has been "blocked from further access to the system". I suspect it's because I have a service running (called Simon) that periodically tests my various servers to make sure they are up. Can someone explain the options on the HomeSeer Tools panel:

Enable IP hack blocking - what precisely does this do (and under what conditions does it block)

Time between hits to count toward block - I don't understand, is this the time that, if you get accesses within that time period, it gets blocked? Mine is set for 10 seconds, which is way shorter than my polling interval from Simon.

Those options are for someone trying to brute for attack your system. After a certain number of failed attempts it will block the IP the attempts are coming from for the amount of time chosen in the second option.

ok so this doesn't apply to successful logins? Then I wonder why I see the occasional "blocked from further access to the system" in the log, from my desktop machine which has automated periodic login (with correct password recorded, since it works perfectly most of the time). If it's not those options, what else can cause the blocked message?

I honestly have no idea but I don't think those options have anything to do with it. Hopefully someone with more knowledge will chime in.
