Any way to turn off the pop up android keyboard on the password screen?

I have a password protected page for my security system. When I select the screen, the password screen pops up as it should but the android keypad also pops up. Is there any way to fix that? I can't figure out what it is in the screen that activates it, unless it's the small tet box at the top where you see your password characters as you press the buttons. Works great outside having to dismiss the screen each time.
Anyone figured out how to prevent this?
