    iPad 2 battery swelling

    This is a hardware question, but I'm not sure where to post it, so I'll start here

    I have an iPad2 in a wall mount that is starting to swell and spit the case. Apparently, this is due to the battery going south. This is the second iPad2 to do this. Is this a common problem with a constantly charged device? If so is there a cure to this?

    I just replaced my battery in my Dell Laptop for the same issue. New battery and it's back to normal.

        I had one of 5 android phones/tablets where the same occured, with a 2nd phone starting to swell.

        I put a zwave switch on both phones and periodically charge each device. I eventually used tasker to update homeseer with their battery level and charge between 16% - 95%.

          So far, I've had no battery problems with my constantly powered Android wall tablets. I have worn out the flash on at least three so far.

            This is usually occurs if there's no ventilation around the device. You say it's wall mounted, is there a frame surrounding it holding it to the wall?

              Hi Greg;
              Not so easy to do with an iPad. :-)

                I know and this is the very reason I no longer have a single iOS device in my possession.

                  Not at all easy, but not impossible. Though one big problem is obtaining good replacement batteries.

                    The iPad2 was released in 2011. I imagine the battery might not last that long.

                      Yes, generally ten years or X charge/discharge cycles (whichever happens first) is the expected life of the batteries. However, swelling is not the expected failure mode for aged/worn out batteries.

                        I just replaced the batteries on three of my wall mounted Lenovo Tablets. As for the other suggestion I also added some additional vents into the wall frame surrounding the tablets to see if that helps.
