  • HS3 to Vera bridge plugin?

I've been tinkering and looking and I'm surprised there isn't a plugin to integrate Vera with HS. It seems somewhat odd considering the number of people that do move from Vera to HS.

With the current lack of Zigbee support for devices/sensors I have been using my Vera as a intermediary through the Vera and HS HTTP api's. This works well and there's the pyvera python bridge that Home Assistant uses and it works really well.

So... I'm not a .NET guy but I was looking at the pyvera module and it doesn't look too complex other than it being a lot of vera device to json mappings to interface with the HTTP api. Any chance someone wants to work on a plugin to bridge devices from Vera to HS? It would I guess kinda be like the JowiHue or the HSZigbee to interface with another "hub" for device access. Would be a great plugin for people to use for migration purposes and then for intermediary usage for Zigbee until that gets sorted out.

Anyways, just some thoughts I've been having while trying to get some Zigbee sensors I have to work. There just aren't any z-wave sensors that match these.

Looks like there's a couple .NET libraries already on github. Of the two this looks promising. https://github.com/jeubanks/VeraNet

I have a couple of vera's (3) but not sure they have the zigbee. I can hook them up and see what I can come up with.
    Thanks,

I have another VeraPlus box that I'm not using. I could provide remote access or reset it and send it to you for development.

Let me look into it. If I'm not mistaken, the Vera will just return a type and it won't matter if it's Z-wave or Zigbee. So I may not need the zigbee part until I run into device types that are only on zigbee (unless the Vera API has these all defined already).

Give me the weekend to research it. I have to take my son to Orlando tomorrow to see a specialist but can start looking at it tomorrow night.

IT would be a great use for my Vera Lite, Vera 3 and Vera Edge I have just laying around (I never even plugged in the Edge..LOL).
        Thanks,
        Frank

Curious about which Zigbee sensors you have?

The main ones I'm wanting to work are NYCE Ceiling Motion Sensors. These (to me) are the best motion sensors I have for lights.

Very discreet ceiling hugers not an eyeball looking over the room
Very fast response times. Only motion sensor I have that's as fast is the ZSE09 and only thing I have that's maybe faster but by milliseconds is powered.

Then I have a lone zigbee power plug that I don't care about if I have to replace and a couple SmartThings multipurpose sensors that I've already replaced (dont' work with Vera anyways).

But I really want my motion sensors to be nicely integrated

No worries on the time. We all have other lives and family always comes first.

Thanks for even taking interest in my crazy idea!

If those work with the Harmony Hub (I believe the NYCE sensors do), I might be able to also integrate them with via my Harmony Hub plugin (MeiHarmonyHub) if you use the Harmony Extender

However, shameless promotional plug aside, do you have a timeline you'd like to see the plugin done in? I could work with you directly to give you Alphas to test to help speed things up.
                Thanks,
                Frank

Thanks for the info, those do sound nice! I don't use it, and you mentioned it too, but would the JowiHue work for those?

I use your HarmonyHub app ... I'm still on "trial" with HS haven't purchased yet, but soon and your Harmony plugin is on my list.

Timeline is open. I'm sure you'll get it done a lot faster that I ever could. I'm still trying to get my Life360 .NET library to work.. 2/3 of the way there but I'm stuck... wanna help on that too?

I'd absolutely do any testing you need.

Unfortunately no, not yet. I run JowiHue right now for my Hue bulbs (thinking of replacing them with z-wave) but anyways. No I tried JowiHue and I bought a ConBee specifically to try and installed deConz on Windows and it was a No go and Installed and updated to latest from github on Linux and still didn't work directly with deConz... Once deCONZ supports them, then I'm sure JowiHue will work. I've opened a issue on github but no responses yet.

Looked at that .net Library. It has promise. I'll try and set up a quick something (maybe only worry about a switch to start). I'll have to re familiarize myself with Vera. Maybe I can get some "Virtual" devices up instead of depending on actual z-wave devices.

I should have a simple plugin done this weekend. I may actually see if I can do a virtual door sensor or somethign. If not I have a few spare door sensors and motion sensors I could include on the vera.

Are they still on "UI7"? or whatever? I think my VeraLite and Vera3 are still on UI5.
                        Thanks,
                        Frank

I would love to see the "framework" of a working plugin. I've been looking at the "SDK" and well... umm... yeah.

Yeah Vera is still on UI7 with some updates and a new update was just released. Not sure how well that update is going for people. May get a new rush of Vera refugees soon!

The UI5 -> UI7 update was horrible..people actively refused to update and said they never would.

As to the SDK. It is a pain. I wrote my own framework that lays on top of it to make it easier to deal with. My first plugin still doesn't use my framework and I hate having to work on it because of it (I plan on converting it). I have a few that are unreleased (just small plugins that do small things for me here and there) that use my library and spinning up a basic plugin is really fast for me now.
                            Thanks,
                            Frank

There are still a lot of people refusing to update to UI7. Most of the developers are gone, only about 3 I can think of that are still active on the forums. The "app store" is mostly broken apps that don't work and nobody is maintaining them. Some of the devs flat out pulled their apps completely. There's a black market out there now for Vera apps

I've seen a couple posts from you and another about "simple" examples. I've been meaning to look that up again and download and give it a go at understanding it. I'm just now starting with .NET so it's interesting, never did any Windows dev work before.
