post upgrade duplicate controls and incorrect locations

    Hi,

After upgrading to v4 from v3, I have reviewed and corrected all my events ( i think) to reference the correct child features. What I have noticed is that all of my colour lamps have a duplicate CT, SAT and HUE device. The offending lamps are LCT003, LCT012 and LCT015. Just one LCT015 has only the single set of controls.

Also it seems that loads of new child devices have been renamed compared to the parent which means when you filter, you lose visibility of some functions. I didn't notice the above until I realised there were duplicates in the event action device lists. Have I missed a step in the upgrade? Is there a straightforward way to rename the child device location without going one by one?

    TIA

    Jon

I don't know what the new names have become? The feature controlling the colour temperature is extended with "CT", the one controling Hue will be extended with "Hue", but that is not really different from the HS3 version.
The most simple step to rename devices is name the device, All features will then be renamed to the devicename and extended with the name in the settings of the plugin. You can change those if needed.

As for the double features, I have heard from a few users having this issue, but was not able to catch the cause behind it in the conversion part of the plugin. Are those double features both updated when values change or only one? If it is only one, it is best to delete the feature that does not update.

    Sorry for the mess there...

Hi, I ended up deleting the duplicate controls individually (as they weren’t operating or responding to device changes). That has tidied up event lists.

With the naming of the new devices, I should have said locations. Sorry for the confusion there. The issue is that the new child devices (that do control and respond to the status) all had different floor and room descriptors. I was thinking that I could just rename or relocate the parent device and that would cascade to the child devices. However that hasn’t worked. The only child devices that seemed to be linked to parent changes were the orphaned devices described above that I have now deleted. So every child device has had to be individually relocated which has taken hours...! I also noticed that the on/off/dim devices that were new were all hidden. Changing the properties of the parent didn’t affect that either. So it is all tidied up now and looks ok, but I still have no link between parent and child properties. I don’t move devices often but it will be a problem again when I do.

Final thing is that reset the graphics status has removed all the nice JowiHue lamp graphics and reverted them all to standard looking lamps. I can’t see how to change them back - even manually as the Jowi icons aren’t accessible in the icons.

My original reason for upgrading to v4 was to get HueSync and that is working fine although I have to move into the same IP pool at the HS machine as it couldn’t find it otherwise. the hub is fine sat in a different IP range (where the sync box was) so I guess they respond differently to mDNS.

Still a great plugin. Just had a bad week with it!

Don't know if you tried, but on the devices page you can activate bulk edit, which enables you to select devices and/or features in the list view to relocate them (as on of the options). This could have helped maybe? Sorry for that bad week But indeed do hope you will like the new options, like the HDMI play box. I am loving it..

Wondered where that function had gone in HS4... Thanks for that.
