Incorporation of Hue app features into Jowihue

Now that I'm quasi dangerous in using Jowihue comes the experimentation, I see that in a device control there is an extra features e.g. Alert, Blink and Dim Up/Down, is it possible to get Flickering candlelight or do I have to do something different. and if so how? I know how to get solid or steady colors, but I think flickering candlelight's would be neat.

Since that is a formula you build on the website, most users wont see it. I loaded that formula and I don't even see it on the app. Is there a place for labs on the app?

So from the formula (Candle light) Website > App > Hub, I would have thought we could see it and some how capture it, like we do with Presets > Snapshot but I think that is for steady state color only, @Jowihue can you confirm and is there anyway of capturing this dynamic animation or is there some workaround?

The effects for candle, fire and sparkle (the philips festavia christmas lights holds the sparkle effect) are available on the extra device IF the light is having the correct firmware AND have enough memory available. This also only avalable if the bridge firmware is up to date and supporting the APIV2.

Click image for larger version Name:	image.png Views:	0 Size:	41.0 KB ID:	1592268

These effects cannot be mimicked by catching the light settings through a snapshot as the frequency of sending a comand would be too slow.
If you want to double check if the light should be able to show this effect, you will need the Philips Hue app to control only this device and then check if the effects are visible. If it is, the effect should also be shown on the extra device. Here it functions correct, as I do have a mix of lights that can and cannot do the effects.

Be aware, you need the newer generation bulbs most of the time. I have here an older (3 years old) Play light and one that I purchased 18 months ago. The last one can use candle an fire, the first one not... The same goes here for several White and color bulbs....

As for the dynamic scenes, they are available in the actions for events. You need to bind the scene to the group of lights first in the Philips Hue bridge first to have it available in the plugin as scene action. But then you can choose to use the dynamic effects or not in the action.

I am still thinking if creating a dynamic scene in the plugin might be a feature to have, but this will need to wait until the APIV2 comes out of beta.....

Wim, thanxs for the comeback, "APIV2" is what to the lay person?

Lights have the proper firmware, which is?
Enough Memory, where and how much? It seems that the Phillips Hub is able to pull it off is there some CPU monitoring?

            Based on Phillips Hue App

            Bridge v1.56.1956046040

            Bulb model LCA007/5
            Bulb Hardware Platform 100b-114

UPDATE: I should have studied your screen shot more, so the additional effects are on the light device in particular, sooo why is it when I create an event I only get DIM UP/DOWN, ALERT, and BLINK? I should also have STOP EFFECT, CANDLE, and FIRE as shown on my current light devices am I not correct? I would like Sparkel added if possible.

UPDATE 2: it seems that the groups devices are also missing STOP EFFECT, CANDLE, and FIRE options along with solo light devices (I have one) that doesn't have an associated group attached.

The needed firmware is depending on type of lights. Sorry I do not have a list of the latest Philips bulb firmware. But normally if you have the auto update functionality active, it should be good. And as said if you have current types of bulbs it should be able to run the special effects.
As for the API, this is how the plugin talks to the bridge, and in the latest versions the plugin is able to control the effects.

You do see the candle effect and can start the effect on the light? You are saying "seems" which makes me ask a confirmation? Can you show an image of the extra feature of the light? If candle effect is enabled, it should show up in the feature, so far I have checked with others and the pluging was not missing on that? Any errors in your log during startup?

Are you running on the HS4 beta? As it is a device action, this list is completely under control of HS4, I am running the current version of HS4, so if you run the beta, it could be the beta showing an issue? Not sure on that.

As for the groups, they are not supported by Philips nor by the plugin for these effects as it is only supported on individual light level.

                Wim

                *edit*

The effects are ONLY available if the lights support it. If you have the christmas lights from Philips Hue, you will have the sparkle effect for that light. The effect buttons will update based on the for that light available effects.

Mine all must be too old. I really don't want the effect, just playing. I have two bulbs in my office, I loaded the formula via the web for flickering and ran it. The lights both started a very slow flicker.

The app or plug-in still do not offer the effect after a day.

I think we are crossing on this. You get the info from a website, The new API from Philips Hue enables the plugin to use the new Philips Hue effects which are internal functions on lights that can be triggered through the API. But only for indeed newer lights. The plugin will show the abilities on the extra device as buttons, But this is really an internal function. As you noticed, running the formula from the web is, slow.. the internal effects are ful speed and very nice to see.....

I am inferring that if they are not in my system, my lights are too old. Not a big deal except I have 61 obsolete bulbs. Upgrading is not an option. Besides, I don't really want the effects (though I might like them if i saw them) and the bulbs function perfectly otherwise.

It is frustrating that the 30 GU10 bulbs I just purchased in September are apparently too old. They are all the same product ID, software version and were new from B&H.

Ditto, I too was playing with my office test lights but If I was successful, I wanted to get my front door top lights to flicker is possible would be a neat effect.

You probably figured this out, but it was Hue Labs through https://labs.meethue.com. I do understand this is completely different than what you have in the bridge/bulb firmware.
