Good article on the need to support existing protocols and Matter by bridging. Homeless is the best in the industry at bridging.

Maybe I'm thinking about this the wrong way but it seems like this could be implemented as a bridge similar to what the homebidge for homekit does for Apple Homekit?
Edit: and like the HomeSeer nodes for Node-RED that use the existing control and status interfaces of HS4.

If I were a betting man, I'd put my money on Michael McSharry to be first to have something working within mcsMQTT.

Doesn't matter, in order to incorporate a new protocol into the HS4 platform it would come in the form of a plug in. All device protocols are supported through the plug ins, Z-wave, Zigbee, etc. Whether HST or another developer does it.
I'm not going to do the googling, but yes, Rich has already indicated in the forums that Matter would be supported in the form of a bridge function. There was no timeline specified because at the time the Matter folks still hadn't gotten their act together.
If you want a "formal" answer then you need to contact HST.
