Plugin devices, Insteon triggers, and Insteon actions will be upgraded to the new HS4 format.
Before you Upgrade from the HS3 plugin:
You need to backup several files so you can restore if something goes wrong.
- your homeseer database (found the \data folder with the extension .json)
- hspi_insteon.exe (an hs3 plugin file)
- hspi_insteon.exe.config (an hs3 plugin file)
- bin\insteon\insteon.dll (an hs3 plugin file)
- config\insteon.ini
Once you have backed up your files, continue below.
To Install:
Things to observe after the plugin is running:
1. A root device will be added to all your insteon devices. The Address field will be set to the device insteon address with a suffix of :0. (this happens during first execution of the plugin)
2. Verify all your events that use either an insteon trigger or action are configured and execute properly. (this conversion happens during first execution of the plugin)
4. There is an Insteon tab on the hs device page that allows you change Insteon settings. these are programming changes to your devices. they will not be undone if you roll back to HS3.
4. The main set of plugin config pages are available from the plugin menu that support the rest of the Insteon programming.
Notes:
Any insteon programming changes you make will still be there if you rollback to HS3. i don't recommend making Insteon programming changes at this point. But if you do, you will need to read links and settings on devices you change so your hs3 config is up to date.
If you need to rollback to the hs3 Insteon plugin
To restore:
- uninstall the hs4 Insteon plugin. this should remove most of what was added.
- shutdown HS4
- restore the files you backed up earlier
- restart HS4
- you may need to enable the hs3 plugin from the plugin/manage page. You will also need to register the hs3 plugin again with your existing license.
Any feedback is greatly appreciated: hs log snippets, screen shots, error messages, or a set of steps that I can follow to duplicate the issue.
Known Issues:
If you hold a valid HS3 Insteon license, you will be eligible for a 25% discount on the purchase of the HS4 plugin license. If you have any licensing questions, please email support@homeseer.com. I do not manage plugin licenses.

- config\insteon.ini
Once you have backed up your files, continue below.
To Install:
- Make sure you are running HS 4.2.8.0 or later. I need this to be the base version for compatibility and to resolve the licensing.
- Go to the plugin/manage page, and disable the current plugin, and uninstall the hs3 insteon plugin. This is required to avoid licensing issues between the hs3 and hs4 versions.
- Go to the plugin/add page, search for "MNS Insteon", click it, and click Install.
- The plugin should get added to the plugin/manage page.
- Enable the plugin, and you should be all set. You will have a 30 day trial license.
Things to observe after the plugin is running:
1. A root device will be added to all your insteon devices. The Address field will be set to the device insteon address with a suffix of :0. (this happens during first execution of the plugin)

Any feedback is greatly appreciated: hs log snippets, screen shots, error messages, or a set of steps that I can follow to duplicate the issue.
Known Issues:
- X10 devices migrated from HS3 do not currently support having their device code changed. there is a some legacy HS3 code in HS4 that causes this problem. If you recreate the x10 device with this plugin, you can change the x10 device code at will.
- The Insteon Replace Device function will be added later based on user demand.
- The Device Mapping report will be added later based on user demand.
- Any custom status values or graphics added to a plugin device will be removed during the migration.
- If you need insteon tstat support, you must upgrade the thermostat plugin to the latest HS3 beta in the Updater
If you hold a valid HS3 Insteon license, you will be eligible for a 25% discount on the purchase of the HS4 plugin license. If you have any licensing questions, please email support@homeseer.com. I do not manage plugin licenses.
