Booting up Rasppi HS4

Ok, fixed (I think) after a couple of days of messing about. No problems with the Pi build or HomeSeer after all, just Kaspersky Internet Security blocking full access from Edge to the Pi's address, despite it being on a trusted local network. Go figure... Looks like others have had this issue with KIS in accessing their routers, so I followed their suggestions and added an exception for Edge to the Pi's address. Now I just need to restore my settings. Moral of the story - keep regular SD card image backups to avoid having to go through this too often!

I've had to rebuild my Pi after suffering an SD card failure. Whilst I can PuTTy to it, the web interface seems to be unresponsive. I've rebuilt it three times now, with varying degrees of success. On one occasion I could get to the registration screen, but no longer. find.homeseer.com finds the Pi but the link to it doesn't work. The maintenance screen works but the options on it don't make matters any better. I have raised a ticket with the support desk but I'm wondering if there's a problem with the current image. I'm going to go back to the original HS4 Pi image that I used and see if that works.

If that is indeed the IP address of the pi, just type "192.168.1.63" into your browser and HS4 hould appear.

I have an HS3 Pi operational for the past 3+ years. After months and months of trying to migrate over to HS4 I decided to create a separate new HS4 on a new Pi. Then move the HS3 config over to the new HS4, disconnect the HS3 Pi, move the devices over and go live on HS4. That routine is still evading me!
When I installed the new downloaded SD HS4 to a new Pi, boot the system up, log on I come up with the same picture shown at the beginning of this post and have the same question. What do I do now? If I do the "find.homeseer.com" I end up with a "Select System" menu. The only choice from there seems to be "HS4PiV5" which ends with "this site cannot be reached". Taking the "maintenance" option I end up at "192.168.1.63:911/php/main.php". Options at this point seem to seem to move towards updating HS3 to HS4 routines which is not the route I was hoping for.
Perhaps the Covid pandemic is dulling my 86 year old mind but I need more direct guidance on how to accomplish this change. Don't leave any steps out!

I've filled that form out many times. It finds keys, says it sends an email, and then nothing happens. I never receive the email. Its not in my spam folder either. It just never arrives. I have a few support tickets submitted but so far havent heard anything. Maybe I'm not getting those emails either?

Well,d'oh! Nobody told me it was a headless install and that I needed to access it from another computer... I feel stupid now. <sob>

After you connect via the find.homeseer.com link, note the IP address. You may need to then open IP/register to get to the registration page...

That is correct, the included OS is the 'Lite' version, no GUI included.
Next step, per https://homeseer.com/guides/HomeSeer-HS4Pi-Guide.pdf (step 7) is to browse to https://https://find.homeseer.com/ and go from there.

Booting up Rasppi HS4
I'll be the first to admit my knowledge of linux is pretty minimal but the instructions that come with the HS4 pi are pretty barebones and dont seem to agree with what I'm seeing on screen.
I've created the microsd card, booted up, and logged in with the homeseer username and this is where it leaves me.
I was expecting a raspberry pi GUI instead of a CLI.
Whats the next step?Tags: None
