    HS4 and negative energy values

    Has the negative energy values reporting as positive (or nothing) been fixed in HS4 or is this still an issue?

    I see zero when it's negative but as far as I can tell it's a function of the older Aeotec energy meter I use. The newer Aeotec with leads for mains and solar works and displays as it should (at least based on posts on this forum.)

      I wonder if someone from homeseer can chime in. I confirmed with them that the v5 of the energy meter, which does report negative values, which I have, does not report negative values in hs3.

        I don't have v5 though I'm thinking about it. However, doesn't it have four kWh devices, two for mains and two for solar? You should just be able to do math.

        OR... I vaguely remember something about including as not secure and then rescanning.

        Lastly make sure the value range goes negative rather than starting at zero.

        Just a bunch of thoughts.

        One more, how about the settings page to allow negative values.

          No, it has 2 clamps and 2 devices for amperage. It also a voltmeter as a device instead of using a flat 120. Obviously it has the kwh accumulators too. The direction of the clamps matter and that is how it calculates it.

          Yes, I can add another one but that is one more on top of 3 that I already have . I have an accessory dwelling unit (1), the main house (2), and the electric car (3). So I would need another one, which I guess I can do if that is the only solution.

          One issue with the subtraction is that this thing samples at a max rate of 10s. So, if one samples at 5 seconds on the min and the other samples at 10 seconds on the minute, that will be a discrepancy there. I use splunk for some graphing of this stuff and that could affect it... although I can't imagine solar oscillating so much.

          I attached a sample graph of the splunk dashboard. I've been using openhab for that one meter because it can do negatives values and was just hoping to not maintain that thing because its not the easiest thing to setup and I had to change computers...

            I'll have to dust off that corner of my mind. I had graphs setup in Jon00DBCharting but with my Solaredge inverter and the Solaredge PI I upload to PVOutput.org. Then I take my utility readings and upload those. I use 15 minute for reading data.

              Well this is interesting. At this moment in the day I'm making more power than I'm consuming. The watts for both lets show zero, which of course is a problem.

              However, the kWh for each leg is moving backwards! So it's just a matter of grabbing the value at a specified period of time and doing some arithmetic. My billing period starts about the 13th of each month. I think I'm going to reset the value on the 13th and see how it follows the actual meter and the utility billing.

                hmm, that is interesting. I seem to remember a similar phenomenon that the kwh did accept negative values but not the wattage.

                    That kwh, not watts, right? Did they upgrade it recently and have you seen the watts go negative? Previously, I confirmed this with HS support and I asked them again when HS4 came out and they confirmed it won't record negative values in wattage (didn't ask about kwh). Did something change?

                      That is kWh.

                      Nothing's changed. If I set the HEM to parameter 2=1 then the kWh is the sum of positive and negative values. Watts and kWh show zero however the kWh must be seen as negative somewhere within HS or the chart would not display as it did above.

                      Right now I'm using parameter 2=1 but not using the built-in graphing since you can't do anything other than stare at the display. I doubt that the Energy portion of HS4 will see any improvement in the future so I'm uploading my data to pvoutput.org.

                        Totally agree that the energy portion won't see improvement, which is fine with me because I export the logs into Splunk and take it from there. My only hope is that HS will recognize negative watt values from the device.
