Insteon users are dinosaurs... relics rooted in the X10 era. If they haven't already jumped on HS by now, then they're soon on their way out to the nursing home where the only automation they'll be facing is the nurse call button. Seriously, though, I have a hard time believing there are Insteon users who only used the Insteon hub and NEVER connected to all-encompassing HA solution.

How can that be hard to believe? Just look at the flood of insteon posts on the board since it shut down. On this board and other HA boards as well. There obviously was a large amount of people strictly in the insteon ecosystem only.

Alot of peoples use cases fall under more of a "remote control" or "fix stupid light switch placements in my old house" type scenarios I feel rather than a true whole home automation system.

Our phone has been ringing nonstop and we added more people to answer them. Most who are calling are not very technical so need some help with things like finding the IP address of their hub. We are also getting calls from installers. It looks like there are thousands of Insteon hub installs. Now many of those probably went out of service, but I believe there are still many. Some have over a hundred Insteon devices installed, so some installs are large. Since schedules in the hub still run, there are many users who still may not realize the service is down. The only way to tell is that the mobile app no longer works.

Good to hear! It seems that Insteon users truly are on an island devoid of tech outside of lighting. Now's the time to sell them on other HA stuff if they're going the HA hub route.

Hahaha. I guess when you are dealing with cloud based servers the will be lighting in those clouds! Moving over to local control is the way to go always in HA. Even Smartthings is trying to allow more local control but they have a long long way to go.

This is an incredibly unfair generalization. Many of my friends who use HomeSeer heavily also have a large number of Insteon devices they have integrated into their system. Thankfully they were not immediately affected by the shutdown other than if they need replacement parts. Hell, have you seen eBay? It's a good time to sell extra gear if you want to tap into the fears people currently have of not being able to find replacements.

I'm one of the dinosaurs who recently came over from Insteon. What can I say? My system worked, it was stable, my wife was happy with it--unless I tinkered with things--and I was able to use it to solve some specific needs. My migration to HS was mainly to keep the status quo.

Though--man, some of the setups I've seen are really cool. ;-)

Historically I had a large'ish number of Insteon devices that I started to transition to Z-Wave about 3 years ago. The thing about Insteon is they had a number of devices that are somewhat unique and hard to find replacements for in the Z-Wave, etc world. For example, dual outlet controls (each outlet independently controlled), 6/8 button wall keypads (great for status indicators), etc. These special case devices are why Insteon still lingers for me... not saying this is why folks use Insteon but it's not about being a dinosaur, it's really about the technology enabling applications that are hard to find alternatives that are easy to use.

That said, part of the reason I moved from Insteon was my experience with Insteon devices dying due to power line hits. This was especially true of the dual-band adapter (USB) - I have lost about 6 of these over the years (my workaround is to put it on a UPS which disabled the power line side and use wireless to local devices to reenable the power line controls).

Sorry, it looks like i never created a ticket to get this fixed. I just created one, so it will be fixed for sure in 4.2.14.0.
