  • Do you use BeakerRain?

I see that the plugin has been downloaded 19 times. Any of you using it? Since there are no comments in this forum I'm assuming either nobody uses it, or it's completely bug free and easy to use.

I plan on using it, thanks so much for writing the plugin. It gives me an error when I try to turn on a zone.

    2/1/2013 6:20:57 PM - BeakerRain - ERROR doOn() valve=1 device=10.0.1.10 failed. Return string '<script>window.location="/";</script>'

Jason, what version of the firmware are you using? I don't recognize the text that was returned, and I haven't updated mine in many months, so it's possible the interface changed.

        Thanks for the quick response!

I am using firmware version: 1.8.2

        HomeSeer Version: Professional Edition 2.5.0.52

I am pretty tech savvy (Unix admin is my day job) if you need me to do anything specific. I was going to take a peek at the code, but it's compiled in the dll.

It gets the status info correctly, and can tell when something is switched on / off. It doesn't give an error for off, but doesn't actually turn the zone off.

        Here is the log dump

I am hoping to pick up an opensprinkler board before summer because of your plugin. I hope it is totally bug free .

          Cheers!

            BeakerRain 1.1 now available

I just posted version 1.1 to the top thread in this forum. It fixes the error reported by JasonZX12R, which was caused by newer firmware versions returning different strings than before. Please let me know if you have any trouble with this version.

Thanks! It works for me. I appreciate it. Your plugin was the reason I ordered the opensprinkler system. I plan on using it pretty extensively.

Just an update, but I am using beakerrain for a pretty large setup now. I have 1 opensprinkler main board, and 3 subboards. They are controlling 5 sprinkler zones, 1 drip irrigation, 4 pool valves, and 1 pool pump.

It works really well. The only issues I have had were with the opensprinkler itself.

Will you be updating it to work with HS3? I saw the beta came out just recently.

Also a couple of suggestions if you end up developing some new features:

Custom poll times, or poll after device update. (fine for sprinklers as it is, but for more advanced stuff)

Custom max time out for groups of devices. For example I really don't want my sprinklers running for more then 15 mins, but I need to allow some of the pool equipment to run for more then 2 hours.

                Thanks for the awesome plugin!

Jason, thanks so much for the feedback. I will definitely be updating the plugin for HS3 (as well as BeakerStat). I haven't started on it yet due to the real job taking over my life lately, but I should get it done in the next 1-2 months.

I really like all of your suggestions and will put those on my to-do list after I get the current functionality ported over to HS3. btw, that really is a large setup you have! I personally have 9 valves to control. I hadn't thought of using it for pool control, though. I hope to have a pool someday, so I'm curious as to how you're doing this.

Any luck with the updates to BeakerRain for HS3? It's one of the plugins I rely on, I cant update without it!

By the way, the valves are just 24v switched valves. I bought a "Pentair 521109 IntelliCom II Interface Adapter" to control the Intelliflo pump I have, and it just adds a couple of 24v switched interface to control it. The actuators are "Intermatic PE24VA 24-Volt Pool/Spa Water Valve Actuator" and they are 24v switched, too. So I just have them hooked up directly. I cut the cords they came with and just wired them in.

It essentially allows you to control either closed, or open on the actuator. You dont really know how far open they are, though. Which is a pain. I just programmed it to do full open ~20 seconds, or full close ~20 seconds every time I want to do something. If I need it cracked I close it fully then open it 10 seconds.

I haven't started on the update yet due to my crazy "real job" schedule. I haven't even had time to check the forums much until recently. I do plan on updating the plugin as soon as I can since I also want to upgrade to HS3. I have also been waiting for the dust to settle a little bit with the HS3 betas. I started converting BeakerStat as soon as the first beta was released, then realized there were lots of changes being made to the HS code that required a little more work.

I just started using the app for my HS2 machine since my EtherRain gave up on me and I had no luck troubleshooting. Given the cost would be higher than buying a new controller I opted for the Opensprinkler instead.

Love the plugin, I do find lots of cannot connect to IP but the sprinkler still works anyway, I gather it has something to do with the timing but it has not affected the ability for the system to work.

I do also love being able to use the device control, so i can just set a device ON / OFF and away everything goes.

I wanted to follow up as well, I am one of the people who have been using the HS2 version of this plugin and I have to say I have had very few issues if none at all.

I occasionally get timeout errors in my log about the connection taking too long to occur, but the next try it has managed to connect fine.

Are you still looking at porting this plugin to HS3, and if so is there any timeframes?

If not in the meantime I am happy to use URL calls, however I am keen to keep the great integration your plugin has allowed so far if possible .

                            Thanks!
