Sick and Tired of this T-Stat

I've had it with this tstat. Really sick and tired of waking up or coming home to a cold house because their comms are useless. I lived with it last winter using just their app and I just turned heating on again. Came home to a cold house this evening because their comms failed. I've added two events to run at time I want temp checked (and another 5 mins later) so I've got their app changing setpoint and two events now. Hopefully the piece of junk will get one of the messages.

Can't wait for the official API and plug-in for NEST

I know I can write a script to check the setpoint and status repeatedly until it does come on, but I shouldn't have to.

Anyone else fed up with it or found a way to make it work reliably?

    Regards

    Mark

Mark, are you using the 3M-50 from Home Depot or another thermostat? I have four of them and they do lose communication from time to time, but I've found that by repositioning my WiFi antennas and ensuring strong WiFi signal all over the house they have improved. You might want to set duplicate events so that when you set the thermostat, you set it again a few minutes later just in case it was offline.

I forget where I originally bought. It was z-wave originally and I bought one of your spare wifi modules (remember?). The thing is, it works perfectly from the app, so that would suggest there's no wifi issue. I talked to support before I bought as I was concerned about it being cloud based and having no heat in the event of internet outage. They assured me the schedule was stored locally, so it would still function if there was an outage. However, that seems like BS given the no of days I've come home or woken up to a freezing house. it seems the setpoint changes are sent from the cloud using fire and forget.

      Anyone know any better?

I have had issues with it on occasion but it always turns out to be wifi signal problem. I'm going on a couple of months now without any issues. I installed a spare router to a closer room and it has been working flawlessly since that time. Mark, why are you relying on the cloud at all? I think this plugin has a box to check to completely eradicate any cloud function just so it isn't interfered with local communication. Also, when the plugin isn't communicating from homeseer it the temperature comes up at 99.999 or some such. You should fire an event when that happens?

HS isn't reliable enough for me (still have memory leak issues) and should the PC fail if I'm out of town, my wife would be hosed (WAF would plummet irrevocably into negative territory). I don't want any critical functions relying on it. I do integrate with the stat to adjust temp on alarm arm/disarm, etc. but not prepared to have HS have full control (same philosophy for AV, Security, Music, etc.)

I hear you and I my HS computer is restarted at least once a day but things keep going. I use Jon00's scripts to read my log and with troubleshooting when It sees a message in the log that precedes when HS is gonna go down the computer restarts itself. That way HS is running all the time.

I'm using Jon's script too, but never managed to figure out what values to uses to trigger reboot (e..g what's a high no of treads, handles, etc. Would you mind sharing what events you look for?

Currently, I just have a scheduled reboot at midnight on Sundays. Works most of time, but sometimes events are getting real slow by thurs/fri

Don't recall for sure, but I think you have the CT-30 thermostat. If that's the case, then yes I would agree with you that it's unreliable. I switched out all my CT-30's for 3M-50 (aka CT-50) model. The 30's would continually lose communication and had to be manually reset.

Good to know, but I'm reluctant to spend any more money on this product line. I'll bear with it until there's a Nest plug-in that uses the official API and then I'll get a Nest and some Nest smokes

Sorry. Just saw your post. When I get home i'll share my config for jon's scripts. But what I do is look at my log when homseer crashes and see what is the first thing in the log that precipitated the crash. Usually it is repetitive. Sometimes though, even if one thing is in the log I tell my computer or homeseer to reboot because I know everytime that is in the log homeseer crashes.

Thanks. look forward to your settings.

It doesn't seem to crash per se, it just gets so slow that HS doesn't respond and I can't even RDC to it (it connects the RDC session but never gets as far as showing desktop.)
