Bluetooth Connector 0.40.2.2 + Bluetooth Client posted

Here is version 0.40.2.2 of the Bluetooth Connector plugin for HomeSeer 2.1 and 2.2beta:

    Features:

    - The plugin is compatible with the Microsoft XP SP2 Bluetooth stack, and with the Widcomm stack (v1.4.2.10 or later). It is not compatible with IVT, BlueSoleil or Toshiba BT stacks.

    - Bluetooth device presence detection. You can configure different device values and device strings for away/detected.

    - Bluetooth device signal strength (with the Widcomm Bluetooth stack). You can configure different device values and strings according to signal strength.

    - An optionnal Bluetooth Client can collect bluetooth presence and signal strength from remote computers, and communicate its findings to the main plugin.

    - With several long range Bluetooth dongles, the plugin allows you to triangulate the position of your Bluetooth devices.

    - Web configuration interface for all parameters.

    Change Log since 0.38.2.2

    - Fixed a bug that could prevent the Bluetooth Client from reporting autodiscovery devices properly, if the Bluetooth Client main window had never been open.

    - The bluetooth discovery thread is launched at the plugin only if the local bluetooth network is enabled. If no bluetooth dongle is found, the local network is disabled.

    - No more polling logs on a disabled bluetooth network.

    - Made some changes to allow Bluetooth Client operations only (in case there is no Local BT Network at the server)

How to install or upgrade the plugin:

    1) Download the attached .ZIP

    2) Unzip the archive without flattening the file tree (there are subdirectories that must be kept)

    3) Shutdown HomeSeer

    4) If you are upgrading, DELETE the HomeSeer 2/html/hspi_bt directory, because this directory will be replaced by the directory included in the ZIP.

    5) Copy all unziped files and subdirectories to your HomeSeer 2 directory. Replace all existing files.

    6) Restart HomeSeer<!-- / message --><!-- attachments -->

How to install the Bluetooth Client on a remote computer:

Copy the following files from your HomeSeer server to your remote computer.
All files should be found in the HomeSeer 2 directory on your HomeSeer computer
All files must be copied to the HomeSeer 2 directory on the remote computer. This directory should already exist as the speaker client must be installed on the remote computer.
All files must be COPIED, not MOVED or DELETED (including the .exe !).

    - BlueTools.dll
    - BlueToolsMS.dll
    - BlueToolsWC.dll
    - BlueToolsWC150.dll
    - Franson.Bluetools.200.dll
    - hspi_bt.dll
    - BluetoothClient.exe

You can install several BlueTooth clients. Here I tested with 2 BlueTooth Clients + the main plugin, and with 3 long range dongles (Widcomm stack), the plugin can successfully triangulate an approximate position of each Bluetooth device in the house.

More info about all plugin parameters here: http://board.homeseer.com/showthread.php?t=111331

Its worth noting that I have been using the BT client discovery process across the internet with great success.

You will need to forward a port on your router for the client to connect and I would advise reducing the polling interval for any client which has to run across the internet.

Other than that it works great.

WARNING: don't use the "delete device" option from the web configuration interface, as there is a bug that could (huh that will) corrupt the whole configuration file.

If you don't want a device to be polled anymore, just disable it until I publish the fix.

        Stipus,

Any way to identify what stack a bluetooth adapter uses when buying them from the store. I just purchased one, only to find (i believe) that it is using the IVT stack, as the main app window starts up as "IVT Corporation BlueSoleil".
A lot of the packages do not indicate the stack - any suggestions.

Any thoughts on adding / supporting the IVT / BlueSoleil stacks ?

Unfortunately, it seems they are doing their best to hide this from public... I have seen some vendors releasing their dongle with the Widcomm stack to the press..... then (once tested), releasing the same key with the cheap IVT stack to the shops....

For the MSI dongles, you have to open the pack, and have a look at the key reference (on the key itself) Starkeys V222-BW are Widcomm, all the others are not... it's impossible to say from the package.

          It's a big problem !

I have seen the same question asked several times on the Bluetools support forum... no-one could reply with a definitive answer on this point.

I have asked several times vendors about this... but 99% of the time, they don't even know what a BT stack is...

The other interesting question that has been asked many times on the Franson support forum is "When Bluetools is going to support other stacks such as Toshiba or Blue Soleil ?"

Franson always reply with "Your feature request is being considered, but we can't say if and when this feature will be released"...

            http://www.franson.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=3798

And the last question I'm still waiting for an answer is: When will Bluetools support multiple dongles per computer.

              Geez,

I just looked at the forum links above...

Still no multiple dongles on a single PC for Bluetooth!

Tasker, to a person who does Homeautomation...is like walking up to a Crack Treatment facility with a truck full of 3lb bags of crack. Then for each person that walks in and out smack them in the face with an open bag.

I just checked the latest version available of the Bluetools lib, and it's dated 9/11/2006...

This means nothing new is to be expected soon on this point.

                  Update version

The version in the updater is 0.42.2.2.

How do I use remote computers? I copied the files as instructed. I also tried starting BluetoothClient.exe. I get an error in Vista, haven't tried any other PC's.

Does you plugin support Vista? Should I be trying to run the .exe? All your instructions say is to copy the files to the HS directory, not to actually run anything.

The HS speaker client works fine in Vista.

I also have a Palm 650. It only is "seen" when it is not "asleep". Any suggestions other than set the interval to 3> (this doesn't work).

Does the delete device work yet? Can you fix this?

How do I change the protocol stack? It only asks when a new device is added. This shoud be editable. If I have to delete it and re-scan, how do I do that if the delete is broken?

I'd really like to get this working....

                  Thanks for the work....

                    Got the remote working

After stopping the speaker client, the BT client worked. Then the speaker client was able to re-start, so all seems fine with remote.

The palm still isn't seen. If I change the polling mode on any of the devices from AUTODISCOVERY, with loggin on, it appears that all polling stops.

I'm concerned about batter life on the hand sets. What is the relative "cost" on batteries of the different modes (assuming they work)

                    Thanks,

Now that I have the remote working, that's enough to buy the plug in.

                      Spoke too soon

Here is what the remote computer is seeing (which is 5 feet from the handsets) It is not suprising network 0 misses the Katana now and then, it's 3 stories away.

                      Still close, but no cigars....

                        Remote Problem

This appears to be the problem:

Currently I don't support the Bluetooth Client / Bluetooth Connector on Vista, because I have no Vista computer.

However, I have ordered a Vista computer 2 weeks ago, and it should be delivered soon.

I'll then be able to test all my plugin with this OS, and fix problems if I can...

I just loaded the BT plugin from the updater. Restarting HomeSeer, the plugin reports that the trial has expired. In addition to that, all of my licensed plugins and HomeSeer itself is now in 30 day trial mode. Did something corrupt the config directory? Any ideas?

I don't think this is caused by the BT Connector itself, as I have seen many other people on this board that got the same problem with other plugins... However you're the first one to report this behavior with one of my plugins.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think this is caused by a HomeSeer bug in the updater or something.

You have no other choice than retyping all your licenses keys if you kept them, or opening a HomeSeer ticket to get your licenses back.
