  • Emotion application for HomeSeer released

This application creates an emotional character to any HomeSeer installation and is sold as a plugin on the HS site for $40

An unrestricted evaluation copy may be downloaded from:
    http://www.lailey.co.uk/temp/Emotion_1_1_5_0.zip
Latest version 1.2.0.0 is on the HomeSeer Updater

Please note this app is dependant on the Bluetooth connector and Skype pluggins to correctly identify, warn and entertain guests and residents whilst at the premesis

This app maintains a person database. People are categorized into residents/keyholders and Guests. They are identified as male/female or shared (share mobole cell phone between more than one person). These details are used to greet and entertain people correctly.

    Features:

Announcement of who is at the front door (or other entrance) by name (as it matches up the Bluetooth ID of their mobile cell phone with their spoken name)

Emotion generated personalised text message greetings as they arrive to the premesis

Spoken presolalised greetings as they enter the premesis

Optional random spoken compliments to individuals by name generated from a vast database using various sentence generation techniques

Optional security system links for tailored named messages and text on alarm conditions specifying who was detected at the premesis to potentially eliminate false alarms

Total personalisation of this app - even the application name changes to the name of the computer personality you wish to create

People may be specified with different speaker voices, i.e. male users may be entertained by female voices, females by male voices.

People are assigned an initial trust/emotional level to tailor spoken entertainment messages to guests, residents, etc.

I hope you have fun with this - please give feedback and I will endevour to include it in the final release

    New Emotion version v1.0.1

Version 1.0.1 now released (download link updated in the first thread above).

To install, extract the two setup files onto your HomeSeer computer and double-click on setup.exe. Choose all default settings. This will upgrade the previous version (if installed) and your previous settings will be retained.

Please note that this app doesn't have to be installed on the same machine as HomeSeer, but if it isn't you will need to install the Speaker Client on the machine running this app as this contains essential dll's for Emotion to run.

Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 may automatically start downloading from the Microsoft download site if this is not already installed.

To uninstall this app, go to Control Panel / Add/Remove Programs.

    What's new in version 1.0.1:

    - Added a randomized "cautious" emotional reaction at the end of the spoken warning when a restricted (private) area has been accessed/breached. If no resident/keyholders are on-site, this emotional reaction is amplified and a text message is sent to all resident keyholders of the breach.

    - Added iTunes functionality to pause iTunes (if playing) while Emotion is speaking. This works on the LOCAL machine that Emotion is installed on meaning iTunes doesn't have to be installed on the same machine as HomeSeer.

    - Added On/Off device code transmittions at the beginning and end of speech and a "ready for speech" code such that HiFi, etc may be prepared prior and subsequent to speech

    - Added version info by clicking on the Emotion wheel in the Personalisation tab

    - Minor cosmetic fixes, no bugs found

      Emotion v1.0.2 is up

Version 1.0.2 now released (download link updated in the first thread above).

To install, extract the two setup files onto your HomeSeer computer and double-click on setup.exe. Choose all default settings. This will upgrade the previous version (if installed) and your previous settings will be retained.

This update contains modifications to the "Random Compliments" code to perform a round robin compliment to all detected people on the premesis within the "Time Between Compliments (mins)" setting spread evenly time wise as opposed to having just one compliment. Thus the time period any individual would have to wait to receive a compliment would be that set in the "Time Between Compliments" setting as opposed to a multiple of this depending on how many people on-site are detected.

          New version 1.0.4

Version 1.0.4 now released (download link updated in the first thread above).

To install, extract the two setup files onto your HomeSeer computer and double-click on setup.exe. Choose all default settings. This will upgrade the previous version (if installed) and your previous settings will be retained.

This update contains minor bug fixes and a change to the spoken alarm messages to include the premesis name when armed.

          =========================

I'm thinking of adding a Tourette's mode to this app with customizable swear words (so you can exclude words that perhaps go too far). This would be a per person feature so that if anyone was detected who didn't have this feature enabled (i.e. your mother in-law) then Tourette's mode would be disabled.

Would anybody be interested in this??

rlailey, I found your plugin very good, I like it. I setup the Bluetooth, and now I will see what I can do with this plugin. One thing, i would like to minimize the interface to the task bar. Be carefull with the language, there are kids in the house. =)

Hi wayneway, thanks for the feedback.

I like your idea of being able to minimise the interface very much. I'll convert this app into a System Tray app in the next version so that clicking on the X will minimise it to the system tray area (bottom right) like the Speaker app. I'll also include an option to minimise at startup.

With regards to the language, I've thought about this a lot as so many words are off limits to different groups of people so I'll probably have to implement it as a fully customizable but hidden feature disabled by default

                New version 1.0.5

Version 1.0.5 now released (download link updated in the first thread above).

To install, extract the two setup files onto your HomeSeer computer and double-click on setup.exe. Choose all default settings. This will upgrade the previous version (if installed) and your previous settings will be retained.

                What's new in this version:

                - Application changed to be a System Tray application so that clicking on the X to close it will minimize it to the system tray (bottom right) area. To exit application, choose Exit from the system tray icon menu.
                - Installation creates an additional icon in the user's Startup folder so that this application will start upon logon to the PC. Delete or move this shortcut if you do not wish to have Emotion start upon reboot.
                - Added a "Startup minimized" option to the system tray icon

                      Emotion

Rlailley, I installed .06 and I liked what I saw. I'm using the BT connector, but I got an error in HS log, asking to install Skype plug-in. Do I need Skype plug-in for it to work?
On the green light page, it says "lighting control is available in HS events"; but when I searched the event I couldn't find any links or plug-ins for emotion.Should there be one?
I tested the security page and added a device code and tested the flash, which worked. I used ACRF2 plug-in for my motion censors, and I was wondering if RF can be integrated in emotion? I'm going to check on this everyday this week because I have more pages to go through. One more thing " WHERE ARE THE BETTA TESTERS OUT THERE IN HS WORLD TO GIVE THIS PLUG-IN A TRY??

                        Hi wayneway,

I too use the ACRF2 plug-in which is lucky really because I wouldn't have otherwise have noticed that they use different device values for the alarm status devices so I was able to integrate these additional values into Emotion making the Emotion Alarm features compatible with the ACRF2 Alarm features.

Emotion is really dependant on the Skype connector for sending SMS text messages and phone calls. I guess you could probably run Emotion without the Skype connector but I haven't tested it without so it looks like you've uncovered a bug (which I'll obviously fix).

The control of lighting is hidden from view as there are so many different ways of controlling lights other than just walking in a room and the light turns on (which is probably the least favourable option). I could talk for pages about this, so for now you have to manually add events, etc. in the normal HS way and not use Emotion at all to control lights (other than flash) - sorry about that.

I would recommend getting the Skype connector as it's cheap and saves you having to put modems and all that rubbish in your PC for alternative solutions, but I'll definately fix that bug you seem to have identified if the Skype connector isn't installed.

                          I'll test !!!

                          Two questions:
                          - I'm running HS 2.4.0.1 . Spent some time reading through the releases today but am not sure which one I want to jump into yet, haven't read the whole bunch so far. Will this be Ok with my current version?
                          - Did you put in the Tourett's mode yet? Sadly, the two iPhones in the house don't work well with the bluetooth connector that's running, but some particular guests' phones DO. This could be mighty entertaining.

                          Thanks!
                          Darrel

                            Hi Darrel,

Yep your HS version will work OK with Emotion. I use 11 phones to test Emotion with and 5 of them are iPhone 3g's. What this app does is automatically reconfigure the Bluetooth connector on the fly. When a phone is not detected (away) it polls for it every 5 seconds (configurable) so that when the phone does become in range it is quickly detected. Now then if this were to continue your iPhone battery wouldn't last long so immediately once detected, it reconfigures the Bluetooth connector to poll only once every three minutes to not impact battery life. Bluetooth only uses power when it is used, so enabling it doesn't draw power if it is not in discovery mode. On the iPhone, Apple were quite clever in that discovery mode is only set when you are on the Bluetooth screen. Once you navigate away from that screen you come out of discovery mode. This saves iPhone power, but it does mean that to work with the Bluetooth connector you have to pair the iPhone with the PC and use the Discover Service method in the connector.

I have found that the 100m Bluetooth Dongles don't get any where near 100m, more like 10 through walls in a house. If you're on the lookout for a good dongle that works also with Windows 7 then this is the one I've extensively tested (they are not cheap):

                              Version 1.0.7

Version 1.0.7 now released (download link updated in the first thread above).

To install, extract the two setup files onto your HomeSeer computer and double-click on setup.exe. Choose all default settings. This will upgrade the previous version (if installed) and your previous settings will be retained.

                              What's new in this version:
Fixed a bug identified by wayneway that would produce an error message in the HS log when using Emotion if the Skype connector is not installed. Emotion will now run without the Skype connector installed, although it will be unable to send SMS text messages and phone calls.

Done some background work for the Tourette's syndrome engine. A new hidden Tourettes tab can be made to appear by going to the Personalization tab and clicking on the word "rage" on the Plutchik's wheel of emotions diagram. Please note that the Tourette's option is not yet functional, just the unlocking of this hidden feature
