  • How to set up streaming ?

Hi all, I have AVI capture and jpg capture working fine on my x10 cameras. I have had streaming working in the past a but cannot remember what settings I used. The homeseer server is running on port 80 and I am using a pinnacle tv capture card with composite video input from my x10 wireless camera receiver. Now when I select stream from the homeseer web screen I have my three camera to select from. I click on Front garden camera button and then select the address. If I am testing locally do I put the lan ip address of the homeseer server ? or do I use my wan address ? Do I use port 80 or does the camera server have to use a different port from homeseer ? I click on start streaming and it says opening media followed by connecting then nothing just a black screen with ready. I dont use tv channels (which is 4 by default) just composite so will this work ?
I have tried different streaming profiles but nothing seems to work. The ip address I am trying is http://81.154.16.186 if I leave off the http it doesn't even say opening media or anything. I looked through the help file on bryans website but couldnt find anything on using stream. Any ideas ?

Also non-related anyone used the express6 video ip server by stardot technologies it looks pretty good ?

    Regards
    Darren

The port number you use for streaming must be a port number that is not in use - so if HomeSeer is on port 80 then the streaming server must use another port.

If your using a NAT firewall/router and you are using a PC on the inside network, then use the local IP address (with the http:// in front of it). If you're on the outside, then use the WAN address, but remember you will have to configure your router to allow the inbound connection on the port used by the streaming server directed to the HomeSeer PC.

Hi Bryan , thanks for reply.
Am I right in thinking the Hauppauge plugin will act as a streaming server ? I can see when you go to the homeseer browser and select the stream link at the top of the page you can enter the port but is the port you receive on ? How does the streaming server no which port to transmit on ?

When you click the start streaming button the port number you enter is sent to the plugin and the streaming engine is started using that port. At the same time the ASP page sets up the embedded media player to listen on that port. The ASP page instructs the embedded media player to connect to the address you specified in the host box.

The posted 3.1.5 version contains a new version of the streaming pages - you should use streammain.asp instead of stream.asp.
