    Startup questions and difficulties

I'm trying to explore the capture plugin and I think I follow the basic flow. I have an old Win TV PCI adapter that I stuffed into the PC and download the latest XP WDM drivers from Hauppauge site. I can run their TV application so it looks like the hardware and drivers are working fine.

First thing I wanted to do after the setup was to look at the Capture Preview. I did not see any button on the setup page to get there or any exe of that name in the downloaded zip file. How does one start it?

I then went to capture an impage using the camera.asp. When I click on the camera name there is a delay of number of seconds, page refresh, and still only an icon placeholder on the screen.

I then triggered my camera motion device to get a picture that way. I looked in the \Capture folder and did see a file which when viewed is solid blue execept some imposed text in the corners. The HS log also had the following

I have no camera connected and expect to just use the tuner to see how this thing flows. Any advice on getting started?

    Michael,

It should show up on the menu bar in the HS GUI. I actually use mcsMenu to hide it and then add the two items (config and preview) to the mcsMenu menu. I still maintain there is a bug in the menu bar of the HS GUI, it sometimes stops displaying after about 7 plug-ins. Take a look in mcsMenu to see if you see the plug-in there.

That error is similar to something I got when I upgraded to WMP10. Try selecting different codecs (on the camera settings tab) some of them just don't work. I use Indio Video 5.10.

There is a couple of things to check. The capture folder has to be in ?:\HomeSeer\Html\SomeFolder (where ? is the driver HS is installed on and SomeFolder is the name you give to the capture folder). HS web server will only serve files under the html folder structure.

As far as the blue picture goes check to make sure the camera your using is set tot he proper video source (eg: composite / TV Tuner with proper channel) - this depends on how you have the physical video/audio signals going intot he card.

I was able to get the preview via mcsMenu and then able to get the settings correct to get the image from the tv tuner. Preview is fine now.

        Onto the Camera.asp...

When I click the button for the TV Tuner, which is the only button setup and showing, I do observe the image in the capture folder, but the icon X does not change. I looked at the camera.asp and it looks as if it is expecting the name of the file in the [Thumbs] group of the ini with key of LastImageName. There is no value for this key in the .ini file. There is no key that has a name similiar to the name under which the file was captured. Computer Television_2004....jpg.

Can you post the contents of your hspi_Hauppauge_Capture.ini file? I should be able to see if there is a problem with the way things are configured.

Thanks for posting the ini contents. Your right, a key called "LastImageName" is created in the [Thumbs] section of the ini file that contains the name of the last image captured. This is set after the image has been saved.

                A couple of questions:
                1. when you bring up the camera.asp page, the button generated for the camera should be called "Computer Television" right?
                2. the number of seconds for AVI is set at -1 right? This tells the plugin to use the default number of seconds configured for the camera to record an AVI - for this camera that is set to 15 seconds. I noticed that you have not selected the Video or Audio Codec used to compress the AVI. If the plugin attempts to record an AVI with incorrect A/V codec's unpredictable results will occur. As a first step, enter 0 for the AVI Seconds before you click the "Computer Television" button to snap a picture.

If you still don't get an image go into the plugins config screen and at the top of the form select "Debug Level 1 Messages" for the message level - click Ok. Snap a image using the Camera.asp page and send me the snippet of the ah.log (HomeSeer log file in the HomeSeer root folder) when the image was snapped. Send to bstein@accesscomm.ca
